Nexus 4 Battery Charging

Featured Replies

Just got my nice new Nexus 4 - last week. I set it on my desk, plugged in so I could charge it. this morning it would not turn on insead I have a black screen with a battery (Iassume) looks like an empty battery. When I unplug, and then plug back in, a bolt comes on in the battery this reads for a about a minute and then nothing.

Have I blown a battery? or ?

I have no idea but it is not functioning at all - this after a solid 10 days of perfect performance.

Any ideas advice, solutions greatly welcomed as I am freaking out ..... going to get a cup of coffe and check back later - Thanks all

Can you start the phone?

How about holding power & volume down?

Can you try a different charger? Or plug it in to a PC.?

When charging what happens if you press the power button? Is the battery charging icon displayed?

No I cannot start the phone

When plugged in and I press the on it displays the battery icon. but that is all. It does not charge.

WIth the phone plugged in to the charger, pressing the power button displays the white battery icon? Does it give the indication that it is charging, i.e. the volume of the battery filling in an animated fashion? Or is the lightning bolt displayed?

Can you try:

1.) A different charger?

2.) A different cable?

3.) Connecting it to a PC's USB port.

I guess I'd hope it's a charger, cable issue - that would be ideal.

If you hold down the power, and volume down buttons simultaneously until haptic, what happens, if anything?

Did you buy the phone here in Thailand? If so, take it back to the retailer, or to LG.

If you bought it somewhere else you may have to return it, or find someone to service it here.

Thanks for the response

Battery is displayed with lightning bolt when charger is plugged in and I press the on button, after a couple minutes the white battery with no bolt. I tried it with usb on a laptop with the same results. I will mess around with it a bit tonight but will be in the shop (branch store) tomorrow

when I hold down both buttons - nothing happens.

Thanks again

Well, I don't own a nexus so don't know which symbols appear when it's plugged in and charging but it looks like the battery is fully charged already and the phone is off? If you unplug it and plug it back in, the battery will charge again for a few min then will stop. That what it looks to me anyway.

It maybe a silly question, but have you tried powering up your phone? Hold down the power button for a 5 sec or so?

I guess it still could be the cable? I would try a shorter, known good cable. Assuming your PC provides suitable current on the USB port that should eliminate the charger as a point of failure. The lightning bolt indicates charging, or at least some current at the (micro) USB, which should be followed by the battery icon "filling up" in a repeating, animated action until showing full. At least that's how mine works. Pressing and holding both the power and volume down buttons simultaneously should take you into the bootloader, so unless the battery is completely dead there may be a more significant issue with the unit.

Pressing and holding both the power and volume down buttons simultaneously should take you into the bootloader

Apologies, that should read "Pressing and holding the power, volume down and volume up buttons - all three together - simultaneously should take you into the bootloader".

I'm in the states now and just picked up my N4 a couple days ago. Tis happened to me the second day on a fully charged phone...it just wouldn't start up (actually wake up from sleep mode). I googled the problem and this appears to be a know issue and is not related to the battery state or charger. It may be related to some software glitch in waking the phone from sleep/hibernation mode.

As already mentioned, the suggestions were to simultaneously hold down the power and volume keys (lower volume key) on the phone for up to a minute and the phone should reboot up. If it doesn't, release the keys and then press the power button to see if that works to start it up again. The latter worked for me and so far, problem free.

A more drastic solution is to a factory reset of the phone but this would erase any apps and settings one has downloaded. It's was not necessary in my case.

Ps: other than that one glitch, I lovin my N4 and all the google apps and services I can access Stateside!
