So my wife was granted a settlement visa for the UK this week. However its been post-dated to the end of August, so i am considering flying back mid-july to look for a house rental.

My wife suggested i just stay there and wait for her to arrive at the end of August, but i thought i remember reading somewhere that its advisable for me to be travelling with her when she enters the UK. Does anyone know about this, or have experienced it themselves?

Thanks in Advance for any info etc smile.png

munter,

I did exactly the same as what you are proposing 4 years ago when my wife got settlement; my wife travelled on her own into heathrow and had no problems what so ever. just make sure she knows any personal details about both of you including her address in the uk just in case any questions are asked.

kind regards

We have an exact copy of all the documents submitted for the visa, we intend to hand-carry those with us anyway in case the Immigration official has any questions. My wife is almost fluent in English... and if we go this route i will be waiting for her at the airport anyway. It would save me a return flight if i can let her travel alone, as i intend to head back mid-july to get housing sorted anyway. Not having to fly back to TH for a week in order to accompany her will save me a few $$$

There is no legal requirement for you to be travelling with her when she enters the UK.

Purely a personal choice.

It is, I think, a good idea to carry the documents used as evidence in her application with her in her hand baggage; especially the TB certificate and English test results, in case she is questioned (unlikely).

She should also have your mobile number with her just in case the Immigration Officer wants to talk to you.

That was pretty much my plan... i was previously advised to carry all the documents in hand-luggage in-case stopped/questioned by immigration on entry to the country.

Settlement visa holders are rarely questioned in depth but the TB certificate at least should be close at hand! We forgot to carry that with us as it was in the main luggage. This was met with a mild tut-tut but my wife was allowed through without delay! At the end of the day the visa would not have been issued without a clear TB certificate.

Nothing wrong with keeping the rest available but very unlikely to be needed.
