Ubon Hash House Harriers Run No 57 - Saturday 1St June - Ubon Zoo

Featured Replies

Ubon Hash Run 57 will be this Saturday, 1st June and, after an excellent hash at Viking Ghettomaster's place earlier this month (many thanks to you VG), we will return to the environs of Meuang Ubon. Specifically the hash will run/walk from Ubon Zoo. Meet for a pick-up outside Wrong Way café (Phadaeng Road in central Ubon) at 4.00pm or go direct to the start point outside the zoo* for a 4.30 pm prompt start.

Some on, but mostly off-road and no doubt a beer stop thrown in. Afterwards the circle and later at Wrong Way or whichever hostelry takes your fancy.

Last I knew we were promised a rare visit from our founding father, Bob-a-Job!

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (200B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.

Not to be missed - I'll be there! burp.gif

I'll be there, but not "running/walking" nor, much to my disapointment, partaking of the amber fluid, as I am taking a course of antibiotics to clear up some infection in my leg.NO,not my middle leg!

The "missus" and son will be taking part also and maybe two "virgins.

Cheers

We are always very welcoming of virgins!

Virgins? We like virgins!

Forgot to post directions, for those who want to go directly to the 'run' site.

*To get to Ubon Zoo take the Yasothon Road NW-bound from the ring road and after 1.8 kilometres along the Yasothon Road turn right (get in the right hand lane well before - the Zoo sign is actually at the junction). Having turned right follow the signs for Ubon Zoo for 2.2k until you see the Zoo entrance (big balancing stone with model animals all around). Park up on the road in front of the entrance.
