I live in Phuket and am considering buying the jsat pi-iptv system

Is there anybody who has this system and can give me some feedback?

I also just want to say that I am not tech savvy. and looking to watch USA channels.

Thank you

Other posters including myself have been asking the same question but no replies so far. You must have a fast Internet connection so maybe therein lies the problem for many.

The Jsat system could be just a glorified Raspberry Pi but I think the question is more about performance. You appear to be in Chiang Mai, how does streaming programs work for you there and how about your Internet connection speed? Satellite TV is not an option for some of us and we are exploring alternatives.

Hi Thaibob, Streaming works very well from computer to Tv,via Nettop, small so fits hidden away behind tv,I am with TOT 10Mbs (supposedly) most of the time it works fine, except when it rains, must be problem with wires outside, but its catch 22 ,if they come when its not raining everything will be OK, so will have to wait until rainy season starts proper in hope of getting it fixed, Streaming is very easy ,so many sites and you get to watch what you want when you want, with no commercials, have not tried live sports yet,it can be a little bit fussy as I have not learn t how to operate with a remote, so when a movie or series has ended you have to get up and manually find another, but its not a big deal, I also have UKTV-asia 13 uk channels,ok for live news, works very well as servers are in BKK so no buffering,bht490 pm, Check out Intel NUC its just 4x4 inch , its barebones so you have to add your own msata hdd,Memory starts about Bht 5,600,but its a proper computer .regards Worgeordie

Thanks for the replies.

It sounds as if someone needs to be the guinea pig and try the system and then report back.

They have a shop in Bangkok that they say you can see the system in action and ask all the questions you want.

I live in Phuket, so I can't do that.

Maybe someone in Bkk can go to their shop and give us a report.

Thanks again

Thank you for your helpful reply. I have TOT here in Pattaya and over 10mbps according to speedtest. Everything I have read says Internet TV is the future and cable and satellite providers are naturally concerned. Fast and reliable Internet service is the key.

Hi,

I've emailed Jsat to ask exactly what was included (what channel and in what language). I'm based on UK but am interested in this system, especially if we can get live footy. At the moment I use Acestream but it's in all in Russian.. Once they get back to me I might just buy their system (it's only 4000bth). I have some Thai friend travelling back soon so they could buy it for me and bring it here..will keep you all posted when I know more.

Cheers

Great system but fiddly.
Lots of channels but set up is a pain as
you have to go to each distributor/provider and wait for the list to
download which with some having over 500 channels can take time.

Once you've done that for the first time you are fine though.

He's going through training pains having to load up his favourites.

Has EPL so he's more than happy.

Movies on demand and he said he was watching the new die hard in blu ray quality with no pixelation, stuttering or stops

Speed is great but I will point out he gets high speed down as living in an area not densely populated.

Since then he has said it's a great system but wishes it came preloaded as you have access to many different "server systems" each with 100+ channels which every time you log onto a new "server" for the first time takes ages to download the program lists. Once you've done this tho the speed is fine and even though they say you should have a 4Mbits connection he says he's had it running fine with uTorrent hogging all the bandwith.

He added if you love porn then you'll never leave the house again!!

Note the 4,100 baht price appears to be to have it installed on your own PC by buying an SD card and having it posted - the small box and keyboard etc is 7,000 baht

Thank you so much for the review and feedback.

I am curious as to the sound quality. Can you ask him his opinion.

Also, I see on the jsat website that they have new system and it looks like some systems they sell are already preloaded.

This is important to me as I have no tech knowledge.

When did he purchase his system and which sytem did he buy?

Thanks again

He has the jsat pi small box with wireless mouse/keyboard.

Sound and pictures is awesome but he is streaming blu ray and/or 1080 hd.

John at jsat said he'll look at pre loading some of the typical standard channels the majority of people watch.

Note my friend is really into his audio/video so if he's pleased then it must be a good setup. He's watching on a 55 in led Samsung and outputting through a denon amp to huge speakers

Yes, thanks to 2unique and also worgeordie. I will buy the Jsat system and hope to report in about a month or so. And yes reading more on the Jsat website they have taken rpi hardware (Raspberry) and pre-loaded Xbmc and other programs for their clients. Not being a super techie this is worth the costs to me.

Hi,

Following previous post I didn't get a reply from jsat so I did a bit of research. As posters mentioned it runs xbmc on a raspberry pi. . However you can actually download a windows version (google is your friend) and it runs fine on my laptop

Next, youtube has useful tutorials for installing 'repositories' and 'addons'.

You can do a search for sports addons. .. It's all very easy..

Last night I tested a latest release (movie) and the quality was blue ray.. but my internet speed is 80mb...

Im trying to find good sport sources and will update you guys.maybe someone can mention some..especially if people have the official card, I'd like to know if they offer additional suppliers then I'd be happy to buy it whenever I get a reply..

Cheers

If you go to their website, they have a live online chat set up.

I have used it a couple of times and they are very informative.

Try it

Some very useful info thanks.

I think most people on this forum are just looking for live news, current affairs and live sports inc EPL.

There must be a specific JSAT package set up for that, that people already are happy with, so what is it?

I don't think there can be a specific package because we all have varied interests. You mention EPL but as American I have no interest in what we call soccer and you call football. Jsat has an British package and one for Aussies and Yanks too. If you go to Utube and do a search on Xbmc tutorials you will see how easy it is to Add individual channels or Add-ons which can be repositories with both movies and live TV. Xbmc comes with several default Add-ons which are very useful.

Totally agree... as per my previous post I did more research, and installed a few addons, the best ones are navi x, sportsdevil, channel1 and icefilm... all on utube..

Navi x has everything

I doubt that, BluRays are probably on average a constant 25Mbps and on top of uTorrent? streamed without stutter or pause in Full 1080p? Maybe on Google Fiber in the states.
