You can buy the flavorings. People who make moonshine use them. They are made somewhere outside of the USA. They are made by a spirits chemist. They are made for every large selling brand of whiskey or whisky. You may ask why I know this. I used them to marinate beef and make other food products. Jack Daniels also makes sauces and I would imagine they don't use the whiskey to make the BBQ sauces.

I'm not saying the flavorings don't exist, and obviously BF makes their own.

I'm saying there's no way any substance can simply be added to raw alcohol to create a counterfeit JD that would fool a fan of the genuine article.

IMO most likely true for any quality whiskey or whisky.

Most people mix Jack with something. A lot of people mix it with coke. Adding ice makes it hard to taste. Adding water makes it hard to taste. Having 3 drinks makes it hard to taste. It's all in your head..... Ask someone in the bar business.

having been in that.....jack is jack....when buying for resale we had to open every bottle and smell and taste...BEFORE we paid for it. One in three, (genuine) used to be the normal. It's really hard to get genuine JD in Asia....but i will keep testing a bit longer.

Today I received an email from Jack Daniels,

Dear Mr. Rubberduck,

Thank you for your interest in Jack Daniel's and for taking time to write. We
appreciate your support of Jack Daniel's and your concern about the
quality of our products.

Counterfeiting of our product is rare and in most cases can be detectable by obvious
signs of tampering to our packaging materials and production lot codes.
These signs of tampering are generally obvious; however, please note
that the only way to confirm the quality of the contents would be to
have an actual sample of the product in question.

If you have concerns about a specific bottle, we would be happy to try to
assist if possible. Please write back with close-up photographs of the
bottle with clear views from all sides of the labels, closure and shrink
band.

We would typically ask for the production code you mentioned, but in
absence of that, we will be happy to review whatever information and
photos you can provide. Any other information you are able to provide
would be helpful, as well (such as the name and location of the
supermarket).

Thank you again for your support of Jack Daniel's, and for taking time to write.

Kind regards,

Dayna

Your friends at Jack Daniel's remind you to drink responsibly.

In the meanwhile it's clear to me that ALL Jack Daniels sold in Tachilek, so also at the large 'tax free' shop next to the bridge is 100% fake, as from what I have seen there last time: a flat printed label with any typical details missing, and no production code. Probably also the bottles sold at NongKai (at the tax free shops at Laos side of the bridge might be counterfeit, although I haven't been there for a while, but the Laos and Burmese marked is supplied by Chinese so then you know enough. Some sellers themselves believe it's the real stuff.

This morning in Bangkok Post: Fake European in China wine more worrying than tariffs.

rubberduck,

paragraph 2 in the reply email says it all.....

After more than a week of testing your bottle of JD, I am convinced that the ones i picked up in Duty Free at Sing A/Port are genuine.

I have checked the empty bottle for signs of a fake, and am pleased to advise, I enjoyed every drop.....cheesy.gif

Cheers.

The first give away is spelling mistakes , read everything on the bottle in look out for spelling mistakes.

Also the label color, hard to match the brightness.

I am no expert on alcohol fakes, but the 2 rules above usually apply to most fakes

Right! ... Like the one on your picture - isn't it up side down? cheesy.gif

Rubberduck, ask anybody in my place and you definitely get this:

Drink the bottle. Go to bed. If there is no headache in the morning - it was genuine!tongue.png

Personally I am not a drinker except when I drink. But when I do, it is either Vodka, Rum or Gin. All whiskey tastes oily to me...

Another idea... if you are wary of counterfeit stuff - drink Thai. It's so cheap that there is no profit in faking it...laugh.png

Glad you got your reply RD, at least they had the decency to reply!

Anyway, I have heard from a certain source, that if a bottle of JD is presented as below, the authenticity may still not be guaranteed, but who cares?....................wink.png

The answer to the OP's question is quite simple. Just put it to this simple test. Where is the bottle of Jack being sold. If the answer is Thailand then chances are the bottle of Jack is not genuine. This also valid for some other countries but since we're only talking about Thailand we mention only that country

So far sounds like only the land-border zones are an issue, no one's reported this happening in mainstream stores in Bangkok or main tourist areas. . .
