simon43 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 My son just turned 8 years old He was born in Thailand whilst I was legally married to his Thai mother. According to the UK citizenship rules for births at that time between legally-married parents, he is automatically entitled to a UK passport. However, I was previously unable to apply for a British passport for him. (Complex reasons from a thread at the time). Are there any issues or difficulties that I might encounter if I apply for a passport for him now? I am divorced from his mother and she has sole custody, but has no issues about him obtaining a UK passport - he will remain living in Thailand for the forseeable future, but I'd like him to be able to study/travel/work in the EEC visa-free when he's older. Simon
beano2274 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 She will need to sign the documents with you to apply, should be no other issues. As it is a first passport you can go to the Embassy to get everything checked out before it being sent off.
7by7 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 See here for how to apply. You will need your long form birth certificate to show that you are British otherwise than by descent and so can pass your British citizenship onto your children born outside the UK.
