Rimmer
2 Indian Medical Students caught-up in Pattaya Jet Ski Scam PATTAYA:--Late on Wednesday Night, Pattaya’s Tourist Police dealt with two Indian Medical Students who were forced by a group of 5-6 Jet Ski Operators to hand over the equivalent of 45,000 Baht in cash for minor damage the pair were alleged to have caused to Jet Ski’s they had rented earlier in the day.The incident occurred on Pattaya Beach and began when the two men, Mr. Rajkumar Ramachan Dran aged 27 and Mr. Prabhakar Tamilmaran aged 22 rented two Jet Ski’s for 30 minutes each at a price of 150 Baht each. Popular Post KED
This really is more than just a black eye for tourism in Thailand. The Thai police and government really need to decide which is more important - the image of Thailand and the fairness toward tourists visiting the nation or the kick-backs received from this scam. But, with the violent threat of physical abuse this is extortion not just a scam. Edited June 6, 2013 by KED
Popular Post Tonto21
The police were said to be shocked this is happening in Thailand and if they had been aware of this incident going on they most certainlywould have got involved!
Popular Post Pattaya28
These daylight daily robberies are unbelievable. And it's allowed to go on and on and on. Who is at the end of the chain? Is it an never-ending chain? Is confiscated yaba just recycled back into the system? And what about these poor Indians, just in this 1 instance, have to pay out to these daylight thieves? ThaiVisa doesn't allow Pattaya critisism, yet still reports these bad acts of crime that it's members and tourists alike, get continually robbed. The Thai community appear to shove these jet-ski scammers scams under the carpet, so why doesn't ThaiVisa? Members appear to be sympathetic towards the scammed. Infact members seem to be very angry about the scammed.

Popular Post Jingthing
Maybe there's a market for a private militia, you know African style, for those who really need to rent jetskis here. Like a group of armed thugs bigger and badder than the ski boys that you hire for the duration of your water sports experience. Sure it would be pricey, but surely a fraction of the cost of getting scammed. Just a thought.

chooka
What's happened with all the talk over the last 5+ yrs on how the authorities are going to crackdown on these scams and protect tourists. Just how bloody long are they going to talk or are they waiting for the ambassadors to speak up again and again before they announce another crackdown just to shut up the various embassies? Time to sprinkle a little sugar around again
yoslim
150 baht for 30 minutes of jetski ? At this rate it's really obvious there is going to be some repair fees to pay at the end of the ride

Popular Post sscsamui
In Pattaya we have a CPPD, Consumer Protection Police Division, they are very powerfull and you can report to them and have back all money. I Like Thai
A comment on the paper from a farang in a Police uniform states "Sorry no, in Pattaya we have a CPPD, Consumer Protection Police Division, they are very powerfull and you can report to them and have back all money. Many don't have idea about this unit, was reported also here, they have an office in City Hall 3rd foor. Popular Post dcsw53
Yingluck's ambition to go for high end tourists is legendary, and is the right idea. I would sugest that 2 Indian medical students are eaxactly what she is targetting, as when they qualify they bring their families back etc etc. I would guess these two will take their future earnings to Malaysia, Vietnam or Cambodia, in order to teach their kids to jet ski.Wasted opportubity Authorities wise up and tackle the fundamentals otherwise the cash cow will die. Swedish already disappearing 25% down in 2012 compared to 2011.

And even the real things are augmented with imagination. "And it's allowed to go on and on and on. Who is at the end of the chain? Is it an never-ending chain?" Speaking of "going on and on and on," what would all the leading lights on TV do all day if they couldn't moan about how horrible everything in Thailand is? For some people it's like a hobby. Some people play golf, others read at the beach and then there are those who whine relentlessly. Not sure which is the least productive.
Donnie Brasco
It's ok folks. Nothing to see here. Move along. Here's the thing. China is watching this administratively putrid little garden of Eden from above. The one thing China covets more than oil and water is food. This place, surely, by accident is Asia's only net food producer. There will be massive changes soon enough.
David Mault
Pattaya28 asks "Who is at the end of the chain?" Answer of course is one of the BIG BIB's. Scorecards, Chalerm has already fixed it up by doubling the rip off so he can get a bigger cut.
Baerboxer
It's disgraceful that this goes on and on and on. Thailand will never move forward until it addresses these issues. Years ago I took my daughter on a jet ski in Penang. We'd been friendly with the guy in charge and he told us the best time to go out. When he waved, we waved back! Of course he was signalling "time up, come back". I reckon we had at least twice the time before we went back. He just laughed and said he was right about best time to go out, that's why we had so much fun. I offered to pay more when I realized my mistake - but he would have none of it. Just said tell the other guests to come and try! Can you imagine this in Pattaya or Phukett............ maybe a different attitude I think. Greece used to be the same. Lots of scams on the Greek Islands' beeches usually with Albanian thugs for back up. Look what great shape their in now.
