BANGKOK, June 8 – About 4,000 people blacklisted for financially supporting terrorists in Thailand will be thoroughly scrutinised before legal action is taken against them, a senior official said yesterday.

Seehanat Prayoonrat, Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) secretary general, said some names in the list were lifted after officials found their innocence.

The list of 4,000 people was finalised after the enforcement of the Anti-Terrorist Financial Act on February 2, he said, adding that the legislation was in accordance with the United Nations Security Council’s resolution and on the recommendation of the Financial Action Task Force.

He gave assurances that the list was carefully compiled and thoroughly checked by a task force comprising several security agencies.

The task force resolved to submit the list to the Attorney General for consideration before forwarding it to the court for a disclosure approval.

He said the blacklist will impede suspected financiers from supporting terrorists and imposes heavy penalties on offenders.

Mr Seehanat expressed hope that it will alleviate terrorism, and not will intensify the southern violence or obstruct the government’s peace process. (MCOT online news)

They're naming, they're submitting, they're thrashing about. The Thai two step attempting to look like they are doing something.

Does this include accused terrorists such as MPs?

Presumably only targeting those in the south would be rather selective?

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom- fighter.

Depends on how they fight freedom. Blowing up innocent people NO! NO! NO!

Either poor translation or reporting in the OP. The 4,000 names are alledged known terrorists operating in the deep South, not for money laundering or financing terrorism. I believe so far only three Thai nationals have been identified for financing/money laundering to support terrorism.

It's about time for Thai authorities to identify & arrest those in it's security agencies who are collaborating with drug smuggling in the deep South as monies generated from illegal drug trafficking are known to fund terrorist organisations.

Any updates on the huge cash transactions funneled through Yingluck's bank accounts during the armed insurrection and subsequent burning of Bangkok in 2010?

I wonder if the most wanted is top of the list......Initials TS spring to mind.

Unfortunately for Thailand a lot of those terrorists in red shirts were fighting for only one man's freedom and it wasn't there's.

Just saying

Will the BIB be going to Iran to arrest the Government? If so a quick trip over the water to Dubai would save a second journey.

This may curtail some activity from the financial side of terrorist Thailand ,but will not stop them, they have their pals on the Malaysian, Indonesian side, so finance will still continue to flow.bah.gif

So those who don't have missiles and aircraft carriers just have to bend over...? Agree about innocent...

Most innocent seem to die when strongest minimize their own casualties.
