Sex-Slave Trader Convicted in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, June 10 (RIA Novosti) - An Uzbek national has been sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison for human trafficking, after being extradited from Thailand, Uzbek media reported on Monday.

Khursand Akhadova engaged in people-trafficking for several years with the aim of forcing her victims into sex work, and was put on Interpol’s wanted list in 2003.

A criminal group led by Akhadova set up a network of slave-traders in the United Arab Emirates, which then moved to Thailand.

Akhadova’s property and other holdings worth a total of $575,000 have been confiscated by the state, media reports said.

There has been no indication of when Akhadova was extradited, or when she went on trial.
