Accompanying Minor

Featured Replies

Hi, Has anyone had experience with using APEC visa card and getting same 90 day stay for an accompanying minor.....(btw I am from NZ, but should be the same for most APEC visa users...)

It would not be done.

They don't allow a minor the same amount of time for a visa entry so they certainly would not do it for a APEC card.

You might be able to apply for a visa in NZ for the child based upon your card.

Children need their own visa, so can't piggy back on yours.

With your APEC card might be able to get a non-O visa for 90 days for the child or at least a tourist visa good for 60 days and extenadble with 30 days.

If child holds a different last name than yours you are advised to have written permission from the other parent to take the child out of the country.

As it's a 'business' travel card, spouses and children are exempt. The card holder is the only person who has gone through customs pre clearance with participating countries.

They seem to be getting stricter and stricter on the APEC card since it was introduced.

Nominally,

I have been told that the child can apply for a 90 day O category visa to accompany me, however I was more interested if anyone has arrived with a minor and got more than a thirty day visa on arrival on the the basis the child is dependent on the APEC visa holder.

I also have been told that the child can apply for a 60 day extension once in Thailand on a thirty day visa...but unsure if have to leave thailand to do this....

I am unsure as to my exact length of stay..it depends on the business.......

I can always take a visit out of thailand, that would be a welcome diversion for my child I am sure....

but just curious to see others experiences if any in this regard

There is no extension for a 30 day visa exempt entry. A 60 day extension is only for persons visiting their Thai child or spouse.

So just to update, my son will get a sixty day visa with right of renewal in thailand for a further thirty days, based upon accompanying me(on an apec card) it is a single entry visa although further entries can be entertained...

three day turnaround ....no proving of funds, just show apec card and supply completed personal details....

But here is the hook

have to show flight details even though application form says and staff say visa is valid to start for three months after issue...

actually think this is more people at this end making demands above visa application form to make their life easier...and they are not thai but local kiwi

Your son is getting a tourist visa, which will give him a stay of 60 days and can be extended by another 30 days for 1,900 baht at immirgaiton in Thailand. After that he will have to leave the country.

Flight details is a normal request to issue a visa.

Thai foreign office:

2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

- Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months - Visa application form completely filled out - Recent( 4 x 6 cm.) photograph of the applicant - Evidence of travel from Thailand (air ticket paid in full)

- Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family) - Consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed

It would not have to be a return ticket to get the visa. You could buy a one way ticket to a nearby country on a low cost carrier. Some are so cheap you could throw them away and not loose a lot.
