My Thai wife needs to be assured that our registered Thai marriage certificate is valid in UK.

What can I do to get a legal document or a letter from UK confirming that I am no longer single besides depositing the marriage certificate at the general register office?

any suggestion ?

I will be grateful for any help as this matter is causing a huge problem between me and wife

Who said you need a certificate that your'e no longer single? I take it you have the formal marriage certificate from the amphur office? You need to have that translated into english and then take it to your embassy in Bangkok ( i stand to be corrected about taking it your embassy) to be authenticated by them. Once translated etc etc the marriage certificate shold be recognised (this is the case in Australia)

I have never translated my thai marriage certificate nor have I registered my marriage in England. It is a recognised marriage all over the world.

For UK purposes you don't need the translation certified by anyone except the agency which translated it; but if you want to use it to obtain a Schengen visa for your wife you will need to have the translation certified by the Thai MFA. You can get this done at the Thai embassy.

Tricky one. There is no such document. Your marriage is recognised under UK law, but you don't get any bit of paper to show that, you don't need one, you've already got one (the Thai marriage cert).

Depositing a copy of your marriage cert at the GRO is just that, depositing it. It doesn't give you anything (other than a bill to pay them for doing it).

Do you have an English translation of it? Maybe you could go to a solicitor and have it notarised or something? That might calm the Mrs down a bit?

You will need to look online for the UK policy regarding overseas marriages, the Australian policy is that in order to have your marriage formally recognised in order to apply for a visa to bring your wife to your country the formal marriage certificate must be translated into english. Just like before you got married in thailand you needed all your english documents to be translated into thai. If the certificate isnt translated then ur marriage wont be recognised

Any documents that may still be required must be obtained in thailand u cant do it outside of thailand

I am aware of this and do not need it for Schengen visa or anything else.

Yes I got an English translation of it. is it possible to notarised it with UK solicitor? It will calm her down

Would an English solicitor notarise the translation of a Thai document if s/he didn't understand Thai? Doubt it.

But s/he may provide a letter confirming the information in the above link; if you want to pay for it!

Good idea, use an Olde Worlde script, thicker paper and add a couple of red wax seals and red ribbon for further authentication.

Because, as you have explained it, the situation in Australia is different to that in the UK!

So telling him what the Australian situation is does not help at all, and can only confuse.

Worth an ask I suppose, but you could be right. I'd go with the link you provided (print it out) and the marriage cert, plus translation, and see what sort of letter you could get from a solicitor.

You may well be trying to help him out, and I'm sure your experiences and info would be very useful if the OP was Australian, or if his question related to Australian laws/regulations.

Just show her a divorce document, she obviously doesn't trust you.

Take her down to your local registry office with all of your paperwork and ask them about the requirements to marry you. They can then tell your wife that she's already married to you - or if you're a religious type go to a church and get your marriage blessed. Seems to me that desperate men have to take desperate measures !
