Hundreds rally in Hong Kong to demand protection for Snowden

The Chinese can turn out the mobs on the mainland. One need only look at the multiple and frequent anti Japanese protests for a terrifying example of Chinese machinations. . One cannot have repeated protests in China unless the authorities aid and abet the protests. It is more difficult for the Chinese government to "encourage" the citizens to turn out on a rainy day to support one of its "friends" who has betrayed one of the few countries that has supported the basic civil rights of Hong Kong citizens.

The issue of Snowden's salary is a red flag because it questions the reliability of both Snowden and The Guardian reporter.

1. The Guardian reported that Snowden said his salary "rate" was $200,000 per annum.

2. The Atlantic writes, "the going rate for an infrastructure analyst these days is $80,000 a year, on average. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, meanwhile, only the top 10 percent of computer systems analysts make more than $119,000 annually . Finally, management level IT specialists within the federal government earn $115,000."

3. Booz Allen has publicly stated that he was an employee for less than 3 months and that this was his salary $122,000.

4. The Washington Post's Erik Wemple crunched the numbers based upon the known salaries and commented that " there's a massive difference between $122,000 and $200,000 -- a 64 percent difference. Yet Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian journalist at the forefront of these stories, says this: "That is a very strangely worded statement -- using 'rate,'"

5. Did Snowden have savings that would allow for an extended stay in an expensive city?

a. In May 2004, Snowden enlisted in the Army. He left the Army at the end of that September 2004. He states that he was discharged after breaking both legs in accident, a detail the Army has not confirmed. The Army did state that he did not complete any training or receive any awards.

b. In 2005 he enrolled in classes at the community college and working through most of 2005 as a security guard at the University of Maryland. (Not a high paying job is it?) His work history is not evident for the 2006 period.

c. From March 2007 to February 2009 he worked at the US embassy in Geneva, leaving to go and work for Dell.

d. In March of 2013 he went to work for Booz Allen.

6. Snowden states that he lived "a very comfortable life" in Hawaii. The local news media confirmed that he did.

The marginal tax rate for a resident of Hawaii at an income of $122,000 was approximately 32%. Local Honolulu taxes would have taken another 5% off of his income. Then the higher cost of living would have to be factored in.

In consideration of the numbers, it is questionable that Mr. Snowden had the income to support his lifestyle. Where was he getting the money to support this lifestyle? Was he in debt? Was he receiving money from the Chinese government?

I wouldn't say "destroys" as the article headline does, but it shows Edward Snowden to be the opposite of Dr. Daniel Ellsberg, Dr Martin Luther King Jr, Harvey Milk, Muhammed Ali and numerous Americans who have stood up to the man, took on the chin what the man gave 'em and in the end won out anyway, as they knew they would.

Snowden doesn't have that morality, courage or stature in him or on his side. Good job Bob Shieffer, a veteran Washington journalist who knew these people and many more like them.

what I see here is a war of words but not many facts. There's no marry go round possible. Obama has repeatedly lied, that's a fact. Now his last cannons for damage control are in full swing. Nice try though. But assumptions are no facts.

Damage was done, unfortunately, and affects everyone and on purpose. Speculations about Snowden's income are just like that, speculations. It will come to light in due time. But as a matter of fact I observed prez Obama lying three times over this issue within a couple of days and had to be debunked. It feels like that there is no prez in the USA.

Honestly, I always sense him as a puppet. It takes a sixth sense for that, and I'm afraid without investigating the manipulators who pull the strings, things will get worse. There's more fear than reasoning taking place right now and on all levels. The tone is getting more unfriendly which is a bad sign.

I do understand the fear some express about the tea-party among others. Still it's a red herring in many ways, not all. Many don't see the obvious. Obama was put in this place on purpose and not through achievements as some would like to see, including myself. Dr. Ron Paul would have won in a landslide, but the reps decided to keep Obama for scapegoating him when the time is ripe. Now it's unfolding in front of our eyes.

To unload the frustrations on Snowden is emotionally understandable, but will not serve the chance to opening up to the truth which will prevail at the end. Pride, ego, fear and greed play a major role.

If it wasn't real I could laugh about the cyber gladiators ruffling their feathers.

Figure out what is behind that. The name Prism is a symbol, it's meaning and goals nurtured since a long time. - hint. You can even see it on the dollar notes, no coincidence.

Don't know much about the eastern cyber gladiators yet, but it will reveal itself soon. Basically both are controlled by the same toppings of the pyramid/prism as a given.

No fun!!! This is serious, especially for the 99.99%

You say the president is a liar. That's the opinion (and the line) of the far right, always has been. There was a time in the U.S. when it was recognized that honest differences can exist among competing ideas and elected representatives of opposing political faiths. That civility has long since gone, which makes certain people get fast and loose.

Prez Obama is his own man, not a puppet. Trying to reduce the president to a puppet is not credible, not believable, not the view of the vast center-middle of the U.S. body politic.

To say former Congressman Ron Paul, Republican of Texas, could ever be elected president of the United States is a statement from fantasyland, dreamworld, non-intelligent life on the moon.

Snowden is a pretty frustrated guy. His personal and employment history reveal that he is not a man of means and that he does not derive from a family of means. Somebody is paying his ticket in all of this and we need look no further than the CCP-PRC to which he has fled and is being sheltered, cared after. He managed to get a three-month assignment with the NSA and look what he did with it. Either the job fell into his lap or he consciously campaigned to get it. Either way, nothing good has come of it.

Pride, ego, fear and greed. Wow! Izzat the title of a new novel, a Norman Mailer derivative? It's got a lot of loaded words that would catch the eye of someone roaming a bookstore. However, in this instance I could judge the babbling book by its cover. Might be better to title it DaSnowden Code.

Is Eastern Cyber Gladiators the title of a new video game? Now that sounds like one I'd want to buy.

Iceland opens door for NSA whistleblower 'We are already working on legal protocols for asylum'

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has fled to Hong Kong, but officials in Iceland say they are willing to receive him should he need asylum. Birgitta Jonsdottir, member of Iceland’s parliament, and Smari McCarthy, executive director of the Icelandic Modern Media Initiative, have issued a statement supporting Snowden

I lived and worked in Hong Kong for almost 3 years. Whereas it can be expensive, it doesn't have to be. At the time I wasn't earning even the lowest figures quoted above.
