Yorky was in the pub tonight, drinking soda water. He had a bit of a hang-dog expressionon his face,so, of course, I polietly inquired what the matter was.It transpires that he had been to the Hospital for a check up, because he was feeling a bit down, and the Doctor told him that he must never, ever touch beer, or any other form of alchohol again. Of course, me being in the same situation (albeit under my wifes ban) we both decided that the best thing to do would be to get away from it all, and fly off for a sojourn in a place where the temptation had been removed, and have a booze free holiday for a change. Can anybody suggest such a hideaway? Preferably a holiday center that caters for teetotalers only and lots of fun can be had without the aiding and abetting of the Demon drink. Any suggestions welcomed.

Iran :o Sorry to hear you can't partake but as someone who reduced her alcohol intake from nearly every night to once every couple of months for a beer or two, life can still be fun without a drink & you DO end up feeling a lot better in the long run. No consolation I know but how about a spa like the one in Samui, have a full detox to kick start your healthy lifestyle?

Like smoking alchohol can be bad for your health as sadly it appears to have happened to your friend yorky.

I was a regular drinker until i had extra responsibilities in the form of a new daughter.

I was 49 at the time and due to personal reasons i was left to bring her up alone.

( I,m not looking for sympathy by the way just my experience as an ex drinker and the reason why. )

She is now 12 years old and for sure i am very happy and content and still having a good life.

In yorky,s case if his social circle are true friends they will encourage him to stop and not bribe him

by tempting him to " go on just a couple won,t hurt you. " EVEN ONE WILL "

As we all know one drink leads to another and another.......................................................

I can assure you that life gets even better once you get used to your new life style.

I can honestly say my social sense of fun never changed and when i do go to see mates i still have a good laugh and enjoy myself even more.

Watching the antics of them after getting a glow on is sometimes hilararious and sometimes you think B***** ***L, was i like that, then it,s even funnier.

I was known as Mr. Soda in all the bars and still am.

I am tret the same as anyone and no one ever thinks to mention the fact that i do not touch alchohol.

I still pay my way with the rounds and nothing is different on this.

That,s both here and back home by the way.

The nice thing about Thailand is that it is socially acceptable to do this and no one bothers either way.

Once your mates accept it theres, no problem.

In your case lampard it should be easy to cut down a bit and show good faith to your wife.

She in turn should appreciate this and be agreeable to you having a session now and then which after all you deserve.

Just my take on the situation and offered in the form of encouragement and definitely not a lecture.

Sorry to hear about Yorky. Also Lampys profits will go down. Hope its not true. No more beer. Ever? A few years agon when in lived in NZ i felt a bit unwell. Went to the docs and they asked me. Do you drink? Yes i said. How much they said? Probably too much i said. So to cut a long story short i had slight damage to my liver. They said stop drinking for 2 weeks. Which i did and was fine after that. So maybe its not a permanent thing.

So true, and it sorts out what friends and family respect you and the ones that don't.

Years ago I got a liver infection and I had to be off the drink for 3 months minimum.

When I went out with my friends, it was interesting those guys who would try to think up an interesting "Non Alcoholic" drink, compared to those who jest kept pestering me saying "One won't hurt". Even after asking them to respect what I had to do from a nasty liver infection, they still kept at me.

Amazing who are my friends these days, and those I haven't bothered to keep contact with.

Let's hope not... Yorky's a great bloke to have an ale or 10 with.

I've never seen anyone slide down stairs so gracefully before... without spilling a drop... :o

Ask him if he is an alcoholic. If he is, he'll drink again regardless of what the doctor says. Maybe even then he'll deny it. If he's not an alcoholic, then it could be easy to stop.

www.aathailand.org - the only thing that got me to quit, and I tried trekking in the himalaya, detoxes, the lot!

Now for some good news. Yorky is back on the piss. It seems a monumental mistake was made yesterday, when the lad walked into the wrong consulting room at the Hospital. He ended up being examined by a Psychaiatrist, who told him to stop THINKING. Poor old Yorky being hard of hearing thought the man had said stop DRINKING.

Anyway many thanks to all of you who gave sound advice, and may you all have a wonderful APRIL the FIRST :o:D:D

Everything you say is true, spotted the AF spoof but I gave up all alcohol over 4 months ago and have not felt so good in a long while, I'm known as Mr OJ now!
