You are right. However Trumps tariff calculation is not looking at the absolute import tariff, its looking at the trade imbalance. Here is an example of Trump calculated the rates for each country. In this example, it's for China. This formula is used as a basis for setting tariff rates on specific countries. Using the Formula: Case Study of China To use the formula in context, let's take the U.S.-China bilateral trade relationship in 2024: U.S. exports to China: $143.5 billion U.S. imports from China: $438.9 billion Using the formula: (143.5 - 438.9) / 438.9 = -0.673 (or -67.3%) This result corresponds to a 67% tariff increase on Chinese imports, as indicated by the tariff percentage on a chart carried by Trump at the time of the announcement. -

It's funny. I thought that the s&p 500 would crater after that announcement but so far it's gone up a bit. Maybe it's the Hungry Joe phememon. The character in Catch-22 who spent his life in fear of the raising of how many missions he would have to fly before he got to go back to the States. But when the number was raised, he was happy because no more stressful anticipation? Probably not a great explanation. -

Anyone here using Western union for foreign transfers?
Readers of this sub-forum must have realised that there is an increasing number of complaints concerning "new ways of transferring money". Western Union was never mentioned here in connection with "transfer problems". I wuold stay with Western Union as they have been in business for the last 174 years by transferring money (among other things). More: Avoid internet hokus pokus. Go to the many WU offices in your neighborhood in person. Never no "transfer problems". -

You have to admire Trump's determination to save the US from drowning in debt. Stones the size of Kilimanjaro. Of course, those favoring greed motivated Presidents will be baffled by Trump's actions, but I think most can see spiralling defecit = disaster in the future.- 1
