Reading about the USA possibly being the most medicated country in the world, it would follow expats and such here would be medicated at a lower rate.

Thus the poll.

I realize in Thailand doctors tend to give a bag of pills for any visit for anything, but that's probably mostly for acute events, rather than chronic conditions.

The poll is about taking meds all the time for chronic conditions, such as blood pressure meds.

To clarify this further, yes of course you do not NEED an actual prescription to buy most drugs that WOULD be by prescription only in the west, but I think you probably know what I mean by the term. To decide to take a med for a chronic condition, you probably SHOULD seek medical advice about what to take, dosage, followups, side effects, mixing, etc.

Is America the most medicated nation on Earth? Could be, according data just released by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) showing that at least half of all Americans takes at least one prescription drug, with one in six taking three or more medications.

I would say no. But I would say yes for similar meds you take everyday to be always ready. coffee1.gif

I voted, and happy to discuss it then.

I take 5mg of something for high blood pressure ... but that's a relatively small dose.

Plus, because of the DVT I got flying, I take between 3 - 5 mg Warfin to thin my blood till I'm cleared of any chance of clotting. When I go off the Warfin, most likely after 6 months, it will be 80 - 100 gram Aspirin.

Knowing that age is sometimes a factor ... mine is fairly close to my Members nick.

Twas a wee joke about the Viagra ... but JT knew that!

How do I compare to others?

I just read your brief, but still unsure why? this information is to be gathered and what it will be used for. Chronic means more than 6 months. There are other chronic health conditions that don't need medication, OSA a Cpap machine will be used.

Sometimes a poll is just a poll, mate.

Often in Thailand they give med with fancy name. I check online and a lot of the times its just a vitamins, In America you go in with a sore leg. They give you a statin. Seems to be something they can do when they can't fix what ails you.

It is probably worthwhile including age in this poll as you wouldn't expect the younger guys to be on meds.
