"No Drinking Day" to be promoted in hopes to reduce accidents and crimes

BANGKOK, 22 June 2013 (NNT) –The Public Health Ministry is set to push forward the “No Drinking Day” campaign in hopes to reduce accidents and crimes.

After a meeting with related agencies, Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong said the “No Drinking Day” can no longer be promoted on the same day as the Buddhist Lent as the religious festival changes every year.

The ministry will, therefore, set up a specific day to promote the no drinking campaign. The minister said it should be promoted on the day the number of accidents are high such as December 31, January 1, or during Songkran festival.

However, he said the move will have to be approved by the cabinet first. Furthermore, the minister said he would also be looking for an approval by international organizations like the World Health Organization or WHO to make the "No Drinking Day" official.

What a joke...trying to get the the World Health Organization to make it official is just a publicity tactic....within Thailand to make it "official" the Public Health Minister, the Cabinet and/or the Prime Minister only need to make it official. So, Khun Health Minister, go ahead and make it official; don't worry about whether WHO pats you on the back or not...just do it.

How about February 30th?

I'll second that.

Yeah, right. That'll work... NOT.

How about making the Police get off their asses and enforce the current laws on drinking, and as long as we got them working they can start enforcing traffic laws, especially the drinking and driving related laws. And none of that 100 baht to forget it crap.

As for Songlran... limit it to one day nationwide (and same day everywhere) and ban the water throwing and use of high pressure squirt guns

Jeeze, what a bunch of useless buffoons these people are.

To acknowledge the mastermind behind this brillant idea, and the brillance displayed by this entire group of politicians,

I propose a 1 day firearm open season on politicans, nation wide. This would be combined with the non drinking day proposed. An Additional open season day could be added as a bonus to any and all additional laws, rules, suggestions made by members of government, that center on a specific day of the year.
