I see that local Senate elections have been scheduled on April 19th which is also Pattaya's main water battle day.

Are local elections designated as dry days with no alcohol sales? Is it possible to do this at one of the must drunk inducing days of the year?

Does anyone know for sure that Pattaya are celebrating on 18th/19th April?

Has it been officially announced yet?

As much as I love Pattaya, Songkhran there is a nightmare.

Endless streams of bufoons who wouldn't even know the sybolism or the use of water in the festival, paraging around town in rented jeeps.

No thanks!

BTW MelonF, come the 19th you'll be sick to death of water basttles as anyone with a brain would be.

Yeah, one day of mayhem should be enough, but a whole week ?

Some of the "clan" have invited me to visit their home village in Korat for the first few days. I might take them up on it and catch the tail-end of the festivities upon returning to Pattaya.

On a positive note - can wearing your swimming trunks all week, and not make a change. :D

No need to shower either ! (unless you get that white powder stuff all over you) :o

Please forgive my ignorance on this subject. (I have spent the last few Songkrans either in Bangkok or Sa Kaeo).

The designated days for Pattaya are 18 & 19 April, where I understand all hel_l will be let loose.

So what happens on the official Songkran days of 12th, 13th and 14th.? Is it lively on those days as well? Is there plenty of water throwing and trucks etc roaming with water gangs?

The reason I'm asking is that my daughter and husband will be visiting from the Uk and they have requested me to get a truck for them to join in the festivities. I will also have the usual gang down from Sa Kaeo, (at least a dozen or more), but they will be gone back before the 18th. So if I get the truck for the 13th, will they be able to 'have a good time'?

I hasten to add, I will be safely ensconced in the Mobi mansion for the entire period. :D

My understanding is that Songkran happens/occurs on different days in different parts of the country.

It is the 18th in Chonburi, and the 19th in Pattaya.

The party apparently kicks off in Pattaya as soon as Songkran gets underway in other parts of the country (on the 12th or 13th).

It looks like I will be celebrating Songkran in Korat around the 13th/14th and back in Pattaya sometime on the 15th.

I will then begin staking out various business's and residences with my trusty pair of 5 baht water pistols :o
