Man Attempts To Climb Over South Korean Embassy Gate

kor.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A South Korean man tries to climb over the gate of South Korean Embassy in Bangkok in order to air his grievance after his motorcycle and credit card were allegedly stolen.

When police arrived, a man was sitting on top of the Embassy′s front gate and shouting incoherently. The man apparently attempted to enter the Embassy, and some officials spent 15 minutes convincing the individual to come down, while a crowd of staff and onlookers stood watching nearby.

The man eventually climbed down from the gate and was escorted to the police station, accompanied by the South Korean Embassy′s official. The individual identified himself as Mr. Yu Gee Won, and said he had worked as a Tae Kwon Do teacher for 2 weeks in Thailand.

Mr. Won said the motorcycle he had rented as stolen, and then his bag was later stolen along with his credit card. He said the credit card has been used without his authorization, too.

Mr. Won told police he attempted to seek help from the South Korean Embassy staff but was turned away, so he became angry and tried to enter the building to protest the officials′ refusal to help him.

Police say they are investigating the matter.

I wonder if the staff who turned him away were Korean or locally employed Thais ?

If the latter it's not surprising and if the former they've been in Thailand too long and picked up local practices.

The story got his name incorrect, He was Mr Yu sim hi. The official from the S. Korean Embassy was later identified as Yu So Wong.

Hint: while a person's embassy may help with BIG, SERIOUS issues a person encounters, especially when it gets into the news media and it could cause embarrassment for a country; unfortunately, getting robbed don't meet the BIG, SERIOUS, embarrassment to the country criteria.

It's a bit extreme bit I guess some foreigners will do anything rather than report a crime to the Thai police.

The guy is right. Embassy/Consulate persons should provide more help for expats. After all, they are not paid to scratch their balls all day long!

In some embassies the only balls they scratch regularly are of the golf variety. The weekends start at lunchtime on Fridays

He was trying to seek help from his own country. I would have a hard time climbing over my embassy's 50ft fence.

Who ever designed or approved that front gate should get the shaft.. its almost built for climbing over.
