The Science Ministry signs a cooperation agreement with a US Institute on Energy Research

The Ministry of Science and Technology has signed an agreement with the International Institute on Alternative Energy Research of the United States, under which both sides will cooperate in developing bio-energy which is environment-friendly and economic-worthwhile, from biomass or biomaterial wastes.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pravich Rattanapian (ประวิช รัตนเพียร) said the cooperation will contribute to a reduction in the country’s dependence on fossil-based fuel both at local and national levels.

The agreement which was signed at the Thailand Science Park last week, will be conducted for five years ending on March 31st, 2011. The cooperation will also cover research into alternative energy that can substitute solar cells and other forms of fuel-related cells.

Thailand has set a target to substitute 8 percent of the total energy used with renewable energy by 2010, with the help of scientific and technological advancement particularly applied to the manufacturing process.
