It's actually OK to say "I wonder how long", as opposed to "I think they can.." when you actually have no idea, Harry.

The Thai legal system is its' own beast. How well it interacts with you, without very powerful friends is a factor of how much money you have.

And as to "how do I know" as opposed to I think... well therein is another story.
