Connecting A Panasonic Video Camera Using Firewire

Featured Replies

I am trying to connect my Panasonic NV GS150 camera to a DVD recorder using the Firewire

(IEEE 1394) but the recorder does not see the camera.

I have also tried connecting to my notebook, but with the same result.

I am not sure if it is the cable or the camera.

Does anyone have experience of doing this with a Panasonic camera, or any other brand for that matter?

Any tips or wrinkles you can pass on will be welcome.

Thanks

Did you make sure the DVD recorder is tuned in to the right channel?

On my Philips recorder, it is 'CAM 1' (or 2) before you can record from camcorder.

Yes, the Pioneer DVR machine only has one DV input.

Thanks all the same.

Make sure you have the proper drivers for the firewire port on your computer/notebook installed. It should show up in the device manager, under "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers". If not, get the drivers installed.

You should be in either record mode (recording, to capture whatever the camcorder sees), or playback mode (to capture what's on tape).

Sorry - misread OP :o

Thanks for the various pieces of advice.

It turned out to be a bad cable, one of those thin extendable ones.

I now have a thicker, screened one and all is well.
