Thida to resign to pave way for Jatuporn

"Since Jatuporn has lost his hopes of winning a Cabinet seat, everyone wants him to lead the people's democratic army. From now on, the UDD will be more active and hold rallies around the country," Worachai said.

Can anyone think of other countries where those three words (the ones in bold) have been and are used? Usually where democracy does not exist.

Like "The people's Democratic Republic of .........."

Mind you, Thailand has a 'Democratic' government

Lets hope that doesn't change, but if the red shirts decide its time to take charge, then........

Can a democratic government be formed by a political party that is far from democratic?
The confusion caused by a democratic(ally elected) government, which the Red posters confuse with a democracy.

'Weng said Thida said Jatuporn should become the new leader of the UDD because he has been left out of the Yingluck Cabinet during the last three reshuffles despite speculation that he would be given a position.'

So, is this a 'pity' promotion or did the Man From Dubai use this as a 'consolation' prize for not letting this 'bull in a china shop' into his cabinet?

Jatuporn grew up in Nakhon Sri Thammarat and may not command the respect of the Northeasterners. Maybe he will just be the 'face' of the UDD, giving speeches and rabble rousing, and Weng and Thida will still be pulling the strings behind the scenes the same as Dr. Thaksin pulls the strings on the current government. For a group that complains about 'The Invisible Hand' blocking them, they are, themselves, controlled by a 'Invisible Hand'. What irony!

Election? This is the first time I've heard the word election associated with UDD leaders.

Who exactly votes in these election? Do all UDD members vote or do just the leaders vote? Do 1 million people vote? Do 50,000 vote? Do 50 vote? Or does just one man vote?

These are actually serious questions. I know that some members of ThaiVisa (especially someone with the initials NN) are close to the UDD leaders and I wonder if they can shed some light on the level of grassroots democracy actually practiced by the UDD.

A small clique of Red Shirt "leaders" take care of such nuisances. IIRC Thida herself was elected, pfff, appointed that way, probably because she happened to be the only candidate.

Democracy, they are doing it wrong.

Could get interesting when two dissapointed people, Jatuporn and Chalerm, join forces.

Don't forget Chuwit! The three masterminds with their new party "Rak Thailand toooo much"

I don't think even Chuwit wants anything to do with those two.

Thida told the assembly that Jatuporn is qualified to lead the red-shirt movement, weng said.

Can't argue with that.

Did she do it voluntarily or did some rather large men wearing yellow shirts and white masks suggest it as a good idea ?

Putting Jatuporn in charge, could be a problem. Thiad and Wong are CT, and support people. Jatuporn is a hit man for Big Brother. Lets see if the government can protest the freedom of speech of non Red Shirt people, Will the BIB do their jobs or in the past support the Red Shirts. Cry havoc and release the dogs of war. ph34r.pngph34r.png

What's the end game, give him a cabinet post and he will keep the thugs in order ?

Cant argue with that, he has certainly gone downhill, but that's not what you meant is it.

He also has a health problem that needs to be cleared up before taking up the position.

I'm sure this can cleared up by placing a small amount of lead in his ear...even a very small amount, they say .22 would cure him for ever whistling.gif

"He also has a health problem that needs to be cleared up before taking up the position"

Sorry, psychosis (loss of contact with reality) is incurable...

So now they are a army but in the courts they are pro-test-ers for democracy who were gunned down by the army under Mark abd Suthep. Personally I don't think of the red movement as either.democratic nor a army. Pawns is what comes to mind.

I have no doubts that the health problem in question refers to his mental state.

I was thinking along the lines that he caught something from Chalerm and is taking the same medication.

Not to worry. This is Thailand. They'll mess it up...

"all the UDD members agreed that Jatuporn should be the next leader" sounds a lot better than Thaksin said.

Can any body enlighten me as to how one becomes a member of the UDD, the annual fees, when and where meetings and votes are held - or does the Democracy part of this group only exist in its name?

I think the correct name was used in the text 'the people's democratic army' so voting is not usually required!

Seems they cant give this position away.......

They should advertise the job on Thaivisa.

If they could also get the details of banned members I'm sure they'd find someone

Thida Thavornset plans to resign as the chairwoman of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship to pave the way for Jatuporn Promphan to lead the red-shirt movement, red-shirt leaders said Monday.

Mr. Bean script writers should have been so lucky.

Maybe he's still on his hunger strike?
