Hiya,

I have posted this ad as i'm really finding it difficult in finding a job in the field i'm currently work in.At present i work in a test cell in Derby,uk testing the development and production jet engines, making sure they are certified and safe for civilian passengers.

On the development side it is very involved, driving & monitoring the engine with the certain sub syatems involved i.e accelerometers, ac/dc strain gauges pressures, temps, shaft speeds etc. As a test cell technician, we carry out all maintenance, unit changes, fault finding opps to the relevant documentation, procedures.

The current engine types which that i am competent in are the:

Trent 500/700/800/900 and now the 1000. V2500 and the 524.

I am hoping to find work in thailand in a similar role, would any body have any information to help me?

Ideally in the jet engine, turbine field.

Is there many jobs for jet/turbine test cell technicians in the PowerStation's in thailand? What salary would i expect to achieve?

any help would be much appreciated.

P.s i have 7 yrs experience in this field and im educated to HNC level in Mechanical engineering

Thanks Tom

Firstly, welcome to Thai Visa!

To answer your question, just off the top of my head you'll have a tough time. Thailand isn't any easier than the UK for jobs, and for you, it'll probably be harder.

- You don't speak Thai.

- You aren't a Thai national, thefore requiring the company to sponser you a work permit.

- Most Thai's in the field you are in probably will have a Eng. Degree from an excellent Thai university supplemented by a Masters from a UK/UK or Australian university.

- For that priveledge they wouldn't be paid more than THB30-40K per month.

It may not be all doom and gloom. There are a few people here who know about jobs in oil, gas and utilities here, which may be a bit better paying, with less emphasis on Thailand for top notch qualifications.

as a person that's been in the international power generation industry (mechanical) for 20 years on new projects I'd say that the most likely opportunities are as a technical advisor with a gas turbine vendor such as GE, Siemens, Alstom, etc. There are job shops for contractors with gas turbine expertise and the knowlege can be had by word of mouth or do a web search. Check out penpower.com and roadtechs.com. Pen Power is for GE types. Long hard hours on site overseas doing installation and commissioning of new units but good wages and most importantly you get your foot in the door with a network of similarly minded individuals.

then...maybe after several years of wandering the planet on different assignments you may be lucky and find yourself in Thailand. With your pockets bulging with your wages you can buy something nice here to use as a base for intervals between jobs. There's lots of us on this forum that got this arrangement.

good luck...I lived in Derby working for International Combustion (power boilers) on Sinfin Rd for almost 3 years...any sane person would pack their bags and get out quick if they had the chance...
