Time Running Out On Old Passport

Featured Replies

I need some advice. :o

In mid August this year I am due to get my 2nd one year retirement extention visa stamp. :D

But before that time in early July I will return to N.Z. for approx six weeks. I have allready got my re entry permit stamp.

I see that my current Passport expires in May 2007. So if I go to Bangkok Immigration on my return from N.Z. in early August, which is about one and a half weeks before my old retirement visa expires. I see the following might happen.

They will look at my passport and say you have only nine months left on this passport (August to May = nine months not a full year for the retirement extention).

What should I do? Remember I am leaving for N.Z. in July for only six weeks ( not enough time to get a new passport issued in N.Z. I think) also I have a re entry stamp in my expiring passport + the left over of my retirement visa, I do not wish to waste them.

Should I go to N.Z. house in Bangkok now and ask for a new passport? If so what happens to my current valid stamps ( re entry and retirement visa open till August this year)

Thanks all for any good advice. :D

Get a new passport now and have the stamps transferred at immigration.

Wow good info from you again Thanks :o

I had it before that my passport expired earlier than the extention of stay permission.

They just granted my extention to the date of passport expiry with a hand written remark why that is so. Once I got the new p/port the permission was transferred and the extention done to the full one year. I had, however, to get a new re-entry permit to reflect the new extention.

Another time changed p/port because it ws full. Permission to stay was transferred, no problem.

For re-entry was advised to get a new one. Refused this and pointed out that even the Vietnam-embassy did transfer my visa. Bingo, re-entry was transferred free of charge.

So I would travel on the old p/port and do the changes after return. Your passport should have a validity of eat least 6 months, so you need a new one in end of November.

Also check the policy of NZ-embassy.

Do they issue a new p/port over one year before the old one expires, if it is not full?

How long does it take for your embassy to issue the new one? (Mine needs 6-8 weeks)

So I take it Axel, you mean on my return in August to Thailand do the retirement extention in the old passport then go to N.Z. Embassy in Bangkok and ask for a new passport seeing my old one will have only approx Nov to May= six months left. I will check with NZ. house in Bangkok tomorrow personaly thanks :o
