He said he declined the appointment, decided in a UDD conference earlier this week, because of health reason. He dismissed allegation that he refused the position out of anger toward the government for not including him in the new Cabinet shakeup. She said no formal votes were taken at the meeting, and the offer was relayed to Mr. Jatupon casually. Nevertheless, Ms. Thida said she accepted Mr. Jatupon′s decline to take the offer."Mr. Jatupon is not ready for it at the moment ... but in the future, when dire situation arises, Mr. Jatupon might step in and take the helm," Mr. Thida told the reporters. She said that the question of who takes the lead of UDD should be decided by local chapters′ election, but the organization "is too plagued with conflicts and not united enough" for such procedure.Ms. Thida said the Ammart (feudal aristocrats) Regime has the upper hand because of high coordination between different factions to campaign against the the government, while Ammart-allied media, Senators, political parties, and military commanders are likewise united in "forcing the democratic side to retreat from the victory" gained from the 2011 election. July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post The Yingluck government are between a rock and a hard place with all the promises they made to the rural Thai's. They can't sell the rice and they can't drop the price. They are having problems appeasing the red shirts who now want the rewards they were promised. It's a bit like Egypt and look what's happening there. As for talk of borrowing trillions of baht for high speed rail links they can't even run a low speed system on it's last legs. Who is going to travel on these trains and more importantly who will pay the fares?
July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post Someone should have Jatuporn how he would describe the rice scam. If pouring billions of baht down the drain in a failed attempt to lift rice farmer's incomes, and at the same time enriching wealthy landowners, rice millers, storage owners and corrupt officials, isn't corruption and abuse of power, what the bloody hell is?
July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post What he means is Reds will rise against Yingluck if she doesn't give him and kowtow to them. And for goodness sakes! Your idiot patron from Dubai is also an Ammart!
July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post "She said that the question of who takes the lead of UDD should be decided by local chapters′ election, but the organization "is too plagued with conflicts and not united enough" for such procedure." And Thaksin mightn't like the result and withdraw funding. Red democracy at its finest.
July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post It's just a game people. All these red shirt leaders are so money and power hungry that they will never abandon their sugar daddy.
July 4, 201312 yr What do they mean by "rise against"? I don't think it means bombs, fire and military weapons like in 2010, as they wouldn't want the funding from her brother to be cut off.
July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post "Mr. Jatupon is not ready for it at the moment ... but in the future, when dire situation arises, Mr. Jatupon might step in and take the helm," Mr. Thida told the reporters. What a relief, a nautical reference. I was afraid she was going to say that she was passing the torch.
July 4, 201312 yr I think the events of a few years ago with the red shirts in Bangkok just show what could happen. I sometimes fear that Thailand could easily face civil war if the glue that holds it together decays.
July 4, 201312 yr PTP is imploding with the predictability and totality of a Fred Dibnah cooling tower. Time to sit back and enjoy the show.

And Thaksin mightn't like the result and withdraw funding. Red democracy at its finest. Not only is the UDD too fractured and plagued with conflicts for democracy its also on the verge of bankruptcy. Without funding and a purpose the movement is floundering and self destructing, no wonder its leaders are refusing the organisations position of chairperson. After all who wants to captain a sinking ship.

Oh the irony. I think jatuporn is still trying to wangle a seat in a future cabinet...
July 4, 201312 yr Step in where dire circumstances happen. Sees many potentials This sounds like a Russian politburo statement, and a pretty serious threat.

July 4, 201312 yr I think the events of a few years ago with the red shirts in Bangkok just show what could happen. I sometimes fear that Thailand could easily face civil war if the glue that holds it together decays. Most yellow and red shirts are only there because they are being paid to do so. If the money stops, the army dies. So I always go back and forth on the civil war issue, as I don't think unless they were paid to fight, that they would.
July 4, 201312 yr Translation: Either you (Yingluck) keep giving us all the tax payers' money or we will find someone else who will!
July 4, 201312 yr I expect that this will actually boost the PM's support. Voters who are in the middle will sympathize with the PM. The perception will be furthered that the PM is working in the interests of Thailand and not one particular interest group if that interest group complains. The statements from the UDD are just words. It acts to show that the UDD is tough and is sticking to its 'principles', even though the reality is that the UDD knows that if it turns on the PM it will be sent back into the wilderness. Methinks this is all for show.

July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post Red Shirts will rise up against PT? .... Who will fund that?... The Democrats?
July 4, 201312 yr Popular Post Does anyone really think the population here will rise up against the leaders like they did in Egypt? The scale of revolt in Egypt on both occasions has been huge compared to anything here. Even when the red shirts occupied a small area of Bangkok and the police allowed them to barricade themselves in, the numbers were minute compared to what we have seen in Cairo, Alexandria and smaller cities across Egypt.Corruption is accepted by so many people here, and the ones who don't like it can't be bothered to mount any progressive or collective opposition to it. The country will continue to bounce along making minimal progress until the money dries up completely, and then it will stagnate for some time. It's a hard lesson to learn, but perhaps the next generation will try and change things for the better.
