When should I apply for tourist visa? (via mail)

Featured Replies

I'm a Canadian and I'll be looking to stay in Thailand at least 6 months. My one-way flight is booked already for late October, the 23rd (arriving in BKK on the 25th).

I'll be getting a tourist visa. My only option is to apply by mail as there is no consulate in my pronvince.

I have read that it is best to get the visa as close to my departure date as possible. So I'm wondering when I should be mailing my visa application form. How long does it usually take?

Would getting a triple-entry give me more leeway?

Thanks!

Triple entry would be best. I'm an American but did my first visa via courier through the Consulate in Vancouver 16 years ago.. They were very efficient and fast, it took about 4 days because of the courier service, the consulate turned it around in 1 day.. You shopuld apply as close to your departure date as possible to get maximum time. If used correctly you can get almost 270 days with two border runs and three 30 day extensions.

Hmm I just remembered I'm going to be visiting family in Toronto 2 weeks before I leave for Thailand.

If I were to apply in person, would I get the visa all in a single visit?

I'd rather play it safe and lose a week or two off my visa than have no visa at all if there's a delay. bah.gif

Assuming that you are currently in Canada and there's a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in Toronto... maybe just pick up the phone and call them?
