Safe Deposit Box in Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Anyone know were I can get a safe deposit box in Chiang Mai? I mean inside a REAL bank. Or a company that stores valuables in a vault. Thanks.

The only one I know of is the Siam Commercial Bank (Thai Panich) near the foot of Taipei Rd on the left coming from the bridge with plent of parking below and I believe they have another branch in CM also with boxes. Don't know if any remain available, so best you call or drop in.

Safe deposit boxes in all of thailand are very scarce. When you do find one it's full. There is A professional service in bangkok that has A large one.Very secure. It's not cheap.

All seem to have a wait list

I was offered a box with the news premier program they have with Kasikorn called wisdom or premier but you need to stick out a huge was of cash for that pride banking status

I've been on the waiting lists at 2 different banks where I have accounts for 2 and 3 years now. Checked in with one of the banks just last week. 3 years ago I was #99 on the list. Now I am #74. In 3 years I have only moved up 25 on the list. The manager told me that people hang on to safety deposit boxes for many, many years in Thailand and some even pass them on to their children.

I haven't bothered to check with the other bank. I'm sure the situation will be the same.

with all the cash that exchanges hands here they are very hard to come by and when you do find one they are expensive because you obviously have plenty of cash to hide.......

A lot of Thais keep gold and precious amulets in them. I don't think anyone cares too much about hiding cash in boxes. Thai bank accounts aren't monitored closely like those in the USA.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess safe deposit boxes would be a good business to start in Thailand :)
