The joy and the magical experience of full moon, or half moon parties, there, are just a commercialised urban legend. A never lucrative legend by the way.

I went there once and swiftly excited stage left to my beach cabin. This was just not my cup of tea..

The parties on certain beaches at times continue....under the stars with just a few dozen people.....smile.png

Agreed, but these would be a style of party selected by my own personal preferences. And not what the masses think would be "cool" or "groovy" ..

Kho tao became a toilet 10 years ago when the walk along the beach was replaced by a paved road.

At the same time, the wooden huts under the palm trees were bulldozed, as were the trees.

Repleced by concrete bungalows with no shade. Sat TV, Air on; no problem.

Welkomm 2 paradise. Turn on yer air con.

Thailand, re. beaches is dying.

We want parradise then we still want satlite tv and air con. I mean a beach in 40 degree heat with mosquito biting you at night in a wooden hut is not really paradise.

I like koh Tao. I do beleive that other islands still need to be protected but for people to inhabite places we need roads to get the deliveries to people and to shops and transport. we need shops, we need hotels as we would need money to buy food. We would need electric and deep well water.

Also have to get the balance for the tourists and also to stop them getting out of control. people still need to be considerate and aware that all though everywhere is relaxed there are still common laws which are obvious. people have to remember to keep their brains with them while they so relaxed. puff

mosquitos r no problem if you have your hammock and mozzy net, can take you all sorts of places.

Don't start to try and make the numbers up mjj. How many have you been to ? where do you live ?

Muppets like you and Toscano ( shocking disgrace) and BSD quoting "I was told".... believe everything you hear BSD have never been because you prefer to sit in a bar where you can throw money at a girl who tells you " Your handsome man" Truth being if you ever went to the party you would never get a girl and moan, about 99% of the people are having a great time.

Yes it gets messy at times....... But just read what's going on every night!! in places I mentioned before.

Just for once stop and listen to someone who knows what he is talking about. Or even still go to next month's start counting them and give me a bell.

Kohphangan,

I do not like personal attacks, yes I have never been to the Full Moon Party it is not my style, but I also do not sit in bars talking to bar girls, I do not drink, I am happily married to a well educated woman who would probable do nasty things to you if she saw what she wrote.

I live on this Island, anything when I say I have been told it is either by tourists staying on the island or by the resort owners themselves, the ferries are from my own experience trying to book people on one off the island the day after the full moon party.

You can attack my numbers, I don't have a definitive source unless I have quoted it but attacking my character is not on.

Yes I agree things move on lie anything

Glastonbury

The old race seen

I like full moon as it is very famous and Toursits come from all over the world to go there which is good for business

Other countries have tried to copy it but it cannot be beaten as its founders 30 years ago are what make it so popular

Not only the FMP's, ... all the commercialised, sound-terrorizing, all night long, open air events on koh phangan, based on alcohol- and drug excesses and massive corruption are a trashy disgrace.

But much worse is the bad reputation which unfortunately covers this beautiful island and its nice locals!

Nothing is like it used to be 30 years ago, if you don't like it don't go there. Nowhere is how it used to be, in Thailand or any where else in the world. Stop your bullshit complaining and deal with it!!!!!!

Ahhh... those were the days...

just thinking about being that age when it did not matter, true had to impress the girls with a hut when ever opportunity presented itself. Now of course, yeah 5 star is the way, but when you are m aking money last u can do real cheap,. Bastards stole my sandals at night I remember. under the hammock, never thought anyone would want them? they smelt bad to me even

look more like 1969 with the hippie tattoo

No tats, just body fluorescent paint. But that was the point, to mimic hippie psychedelic effects when thrashing arms about on the beach at the FMP.

This is an interesting thread.

I decided to add a few thoughts on my blog:

Free to Dance: Full Moon Parties and Fear.

"My final concern about the news reports of the FMP is one of personal freedom, and liberty."

I would have thought that personal freedom and liberty are the same, but in any case, these come hand in hand with responsibility. Take away personal responsibility, and there is no real personal freedom.

In the chaotic lawless FMP environment, there is an obvious vacuum of responsibility, personal or otherwise. And that's where potential dangers (to self and others) lurk.
