Hiya all

for the young/oldddd people in the house....do you remember the bands....like the farm, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, Joy Division, New Fads and the stone roses,,

I was so done in at Spike Island.. I lost my lid. However back to the question...Liverpool and Manchester and all Northern towns changed your life music wise..

So how many Scallys moved on to Thailand...since everyone is talking about the Northerners in Pattaya...who are you, I would like to hear your views...Frankly Mr Shankly

Goodluck to all of ya to make it out of brickcity,,,, :D

I remember most of them. New Fads? What about some others around that time? Inspiral Carpets, The Soup Dragons, Candy Flip. I once met and had a beer with the lead singer of The Farm. Peter Holton i think his name was?

Oasis' 'definitely maybe' was the first record that grabbed my attention and around that time, there were loads of decent British bands - charlatans, bluetones, verve, blur, (early) ocean colour scene, shed seven, supergrass, super furry animals, gene, electronic etc etc..........

...those were the days!! :o

british scene's not too bad at the moment though :D

What about Sonic Youth, 10,000 Maniacs, Pixies, Breeders, Violent Femmes, Belly, Anything Box, Ani Difranco, SugarCubes, Radiohead, Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys, and I can't think of anything else at the moment.

I'll tell you how ignorant I was. When people said they were into 'Indie' music, I thought they meant Indian music! I'd usually say 'me too'...

It all ended in tears!

And other types of Indian music. India has a long tradition of musical innovation. So called 'classical' music is the most beautiful sound you could experience. Also, improvised music is very common.

I enjoy alot of traditional music, but I am more partial to Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Celtic.

I'm into all types of music (not really into modern pop) I love classical and opera, but I have a music collection with something to suit everyone. I must start a thread about it some time...

I've heard of some of them but I think OP was referring to late 80s/early 90s bands from the north of England. :D
