Actually wood often contains antigens that kill bacteria and can be better than plastics - this was discovered in the UK when restaurants were forced to used colour coded plastic cutting boards - wooden boards tend to kill the bacteria without the need for chemicals (just wash normally) and heal small scratches that in plastic harbours germs.
