Made this Blueberry yesterday, crust and all by scratch. Had to show it off smile.png

Also came to that conclusion Bob, have to make my own!

Fruit though can be pricey, any alternatives to the usual supermarkets?

Bei Otto on soi 20 sukhumvit has rhubarb pie, and rhubarb pie with strawberries on top, along with many other cakes and bread. Typical German bakery style, passable.

This is the Mr Jones Orphanage on Tonglor 13, also a branch on 3rd floor Discovery Siam center. The apple pie was indeed very good!

I have to admit, the last two pies I made, I used the Duncan Hines Wilderness Pie Filling and bought it at Lotus. However I always check the clearance sale rack and found them there marked down from the original 171 baht to the sale price of 119 baht. Normally though I will go to the morning street market by my apartment in Lumpini and buy fresh fruit and make my own filling with apples, peaches, strawberries or cherries. The next pies I will use the fresh fruits again, you just can't beat fresh. The picture of the cakes and pies you attached look very nice, I will check Mr Jones Orphanage out the next time I am over in that area. Now for my morning piece of Blueberry with my coffee, life is good.

Never heard of this place.... Nor do I see any apple pie in the photo you posted...

Am I missing it there? How much do they want for their pie slices?

Alternatively the bakery place along from Witch's Tavern is pretty good for most things.

What place are you talking about???

Coffee Beans by Dao....on Soi Ruam Rudee.

OK... Got it... Coffee Beans by Dao is really more of a cafe and deserts place than a bakery... but indeed they do have some very nice deserts and some pretty good Thai food as well, although I guess I never noticed/paid any attention to any fruit pies there amid their other deserty offerings.

You threw me off in your description, because Witch's Tavern is the longstanding pub on Thong Lor, whereas their location on Soi Ruam Rudee is Witch's Oyster Bar & Restaurant.

Voila!

It would be nice if the Brits would stop insisting that the subject is British Pies. The subject is American Pies, which are very different. I have never had a piece of pie in Thailand that would good for the money. Usually the portion is way too small and the price is way too high. Having said that, if you want to pay the high price for a small piece, Rich Man-Poor Man in Jomtien makes great pecan pie. He serves it warm. I am still searching for chocolate pie (with pudding filling and real whipping cream on top). I did see banana-cream pie at Starbucks. Again, small piece, high price. The pies that some of you made look great--apple and cherrie. Yuuum.

i dont see where the op specifies either.

besides baking a pie is hardly rocket science

Actually, the OP did specify, because he was talking about the pies at Sunrise Tacos here in BKK. And the only pies served at Sunrise Tacos are the good old fashioned American pies, including apple, pumpkin spice and a couple others.

No "pasties" there.... unless it's some very late night and a local bargirl has somehow come undone... tongue.pngtongue.png

coffee beans has other locations dont they? I recall at the paragon, GF, and at the Central World, at the entrance when walking in from BTS?

Yes the apple pie was not in the photo, they have more than what is displayed there. 120B. little dish of (walls) vanilla icecream with it, but i dont like walls so that was a detractor. Also I had a chocolate milk shake, which wasn't very good.

La Baguette in Pattaya is very good, https://www.google.co.th/search?q=la+baguette+pattaya&oq=La+Baguette&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l3&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Like stepping back in time...crepes, shakes, pastries, cakes, sandwiches, all very nice stuff! Go there every time in pataya.

Yes... several locations around BKK, last time I checked...

But the main and broadest menu one seems to be the Soi Ruamrudee one... The Central World one, by comparison, seemed to have a quite more limited menu when I've been there in the past.

I've had their deserts on every meal visit. But various of their entree offerings at the Ruamrudee location have been quite good as meals. I think I like those more.

In my opinion:

best apple pie slice would be at "The Orphanage", 1 location is at Thonglor and the other location is at Siam Discovery Center (google it). Nice fresh tart apple slices piled high not unlike the brown mushy apple sauce type pies you commonly find elsewhere in Bangkok.

Its actually "Mr Jones Orphanage", and their flagship café is located at Siam Center. ;)

But yes, their apple pie is heavenly. Everything on their menu is!

fyi, Sunrise Tacos has just started running a promotion offering chocolate cheesecake slices imported from the U.S. and made by the popular Cheesecake Factory restaurant chain there.

The individual slices are quite small, especially compared to the original Cheesecake Factory desert portions. But the Sunrise promotion is 2 slices for 99 baht, which ends up being pretty reasonable. And given the richness of the cheesecake, a small slice especially after a meal ends up being pretty satisfying.

They're also offering a pair of 7 inch chocolate cheesecakes (buy one, get one free) for 895b. Promotion is supposed to continue through Valentine's Day.

For anyone who knows or likes Cheesecake Factory deserts, they're a nice change of pace that I never would have expected to be able to taste again here...so far from what used to be home.

I believe they're only offering the chocolate cheesecake at their Sukhumvit Soi 12, Silom Road, and Terminal 21 locations.

I don't understand why they would bother. There are some local bakers who could make this for a lot less money and it would be just as good.

Actually, UG, for my taste, none of the cheesecakes I've had in Thailand quite resemble/match the ones from Cheesecake Factory.

There's a different taste and texture, though I'm at a loss to explain why.

Plus, at least in BKK, the kinds of places that offer western style cheesecakes usually do price their slices close to or above 99b per slice. So the locally produced product is at least as expensive or more than what Sunrise is offering.

Have you eaten Cheesecake Factory's cheesecakes before (I mean, at their restaurants in the U.S.)?

I'd fully recommend anyone to try the baguette I believe it's called in cha am, I brought home about 2 dozen on our last beach visit there, tried mince and onion, steak, chicken and mushroom and they all tasted excellent, the wife and kids loved them too, so much so that they were gone in a couple of days,,,,, I think on my next beach trip I'll double my order

The Oz meat pie used to be our national dish, but we are more sophisticated now and even have kangaroo pies, snake pies, bush tucker pies and goanna pies (I lie) but I keep on craving for a good meat pie. Yorkies in Pattaya used to sell them but they appear to have moved - anyone know where to ?

My Kingdom, my Kingdom, my Kingdom for a Marie Callender's in Bangkok!

http://www.mariecallenders.com/famous-pies

Goes someway to explaining American obesity ! xsmile.png.pagespeed.ic.TZt5dYe8BC.webp

And their menu is dull of healthy fruit options...Not a deep-fried Snickers bar to be seen on the menu.

I agree ------but look closer !

"Chocolate blended with our creamy vanilla custard. Topped with fresh whipped cream or fluffy meringue."
Guess that comes with zero calories ?
