How did you keep your old passport? When I get a new one, my old one is kept and not returned.

If able to keep your old one would be great?

What country are you talking about? The US Embassy just cancels the old passport when you pick up the new one and give them both to you - UK you do not even send them your passport and you cancel yourself when in Thailand. Believe some countries you have to ask but suspect they all can provide as visas are still valid in old passports.

The US returns the old one to you with holes punched in it in effect canceling it.

FYI Be sure to keep your old USA passport because it may be linked to your bank book. recently I went to the bank to do a large withdraw, was refused because my new passport not linked to account. ( new passport = new number) Had to bring in the old passport and then linked the new passport to the account.

Also my apartment manager wanted copy of new passport to do reporting stay.

hope this helps
