Hi

I am moving to Thailand in October on a Retirement - non immigrant long stay - visa.

I want to bring some books, sheet music, and non-electrical kitchen gear (knives, cutlery, nice heavy pots, this n that), and clothing. I am working with Siam International Shipping, out of Compton California USA. They are Thai people, and have been very communicative so far in our talking. They have offered the following:

- $425 USD for 35 Cubic feet (ca. 1 m3) by ocean freight, prob. less than two months.

- Shipped from Austin Texas by truck to port of Los Angeles, to Bangkok Lat Krabang Warehouse (not the port)

- They tell me to talk to their people in Thailand about customs clearance and anticipated costs, etc.

This would be great, because I could use my free baggage allowance (one extra 50 lb bag costs $100, a third is $200 more! ).

Has anyone used this company, does this sound reasonable, or too good to be true? What would you consider a reasonable customs charge (nothing electrical, just used books, discs, clothes, kitchen gear), maybe a couple of pictures, cheap decorative stuff)?

Thanks in advance,

Paul
