jaidam
Make the most of not celebrating this day while you still can. IMHO in a couple of years time, all will be forced to dress up, sing and dance NK style to celebrate the glorious occasion of our eternal brave leaders birthday.

jcb2001
Didn't Pheu Thai and the red-shirts want to give their dearly beloved Thaksin a homecoming gift last year for his birthday? No mention of it this year. Who knows, maybe we are in for a surprise. Edited July 22, 2013 by jcb2001

ratcatcher
I am starting to get the impression that soon there may be a national holiday declared, with prayers at all wats, fireworks displays in major cities (no, not arson), parades by the miltary and processions of boats on the Chao Phraya river lead by Chief Waterman Plodprasop himself. All in the name of The Great Leader, Brother Number One, He Who Must Be Obeyed. Dr.Thaksin Shinawatra. Many Thai people have close knit families and value the concept of family. Many foreigners have difficulty understanding the concept of family as the foreigners have sometimes abandoned their own families leaving parents and children to struggle back in their homelands, or the foreigners had bitter divorces. One of Thailand's qualities is the respect and love the Thai people have for their respective family patriarchs and matriarchs.
hellodolly
BANGKOK: -- Supporters of ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra are preparing celebrations across the country for his 64th birthday on Friday. Unless we get lucky and he dosen't get there. I wonder how long some of his opposition are going to get tired of waiting for him and just go to Dubai to square their account with him. "Some provinces may hold a merit-making ceremony and a prayer for Thaksin's long life and prosperity. Some will stage exhibitions of his achievements,'' deputy Pheu Thai Party spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said yesterday. Why pother that won't work shortly before he ran away from the law he went to 99 temples here in Chiang Mai to earn merit.Didn't work then and doubt it will work now.The events, which have been held every year, would continue this year and vary according to the region. Vary according to the region. why is his birthday the same as what he says. Changeable from day to day.Anusorn said he would join the festivities in Sakhon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan. Pheu Thai member Singthong Buachum said last week he is organising activities at Kaew Fah Temple in Nonthaburi. Interesting they have to fly Anusorn into Sakhon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan to organize the affair and fly Pheu Thai member Singthong Buachum into Kaew Fah Temple in Nonthaburi. To organize the celebrations. apparently there is not enough support in those places to make it worth the citizens worth to prepare the celebrations.Thaksin is expected to phone in at the event and members of his family would be invited to participate. I think that is wonderful that members of his family are going to be invited to his birthday, Jatuporn wouldn't even invite his mother.

Is your impression motivated by a secret desire to bestow such a celebration on the former PM? Please note that as wonderful a suggestion as it may be, the former PM is a humble man, a man of the people. He would never agree to such a national holiday. Although, I could see his welcoming prayers at the wat for the benefit of the nation such is his love of Thailand.
Misterwhisper
Maybe they should just erect a temple for him somewhere, so they can worship their saintly idol all year round - and gain merit points from him by making generous donations, because by his own admission last year to a Korean newspaper, he is now "down to a few million" (although he cleverly 'forgot' to mention whether that was dollars or baht). I wonder how they will stage exhibitions of his 2000+ extrajudicial killings and the multi billion dollar corruption cases (all that while the average farmer who Thaksin brain washes does not have a pot to piss in yet alone put food on the table without going into debt.) Here in Thailand I thought it was just assumed that they would come. Is there trouble in the dynasty. The new large MP from Chiang Mai is being awfully quiet. It would have to be deep in a jungle. He tends to steer clear away from Thais in large numbers if they are not on his payroll. Could have been Euros but he forgot to mention his diamond mines. Does any one know where he has hidden the money he is making of the rice scam. Buying more property to grow more rice on to sell to the government at over valued prices and process at over priced costs in his other holdings. Yes, Let his humility be shown by coming back and serving the sentence that his beloved Thailand gave him. Let his humility be shown by donating his ill gotten gains to the people... let him be the citizen and benefactor of the nation as you summize by abiding by the rulings of the courts of this land. Let him be all that you propose......... Now on to specifics.. when do expect this change to take place.. just rough date ???
