BANGKOK, THAILAND (BNO NEWS) -- A passenger bus accident killed at least 19 people in central Thailand, local media reported Tuesday.

The accident took place early in the morning at around 5 a.m. local time when a large 18-wheeler ran across traffic in the district of Kaeng Khoi in Thailand's Saraburi Province and hit the passenger bus.

The passenger bus, which was on the Bangkok-Roi route was slammed into between the 19 and 20 kilometer marker on the Mitraphap highway, according to the Bangkok Post, which reported a death toll of 19.

In addition, 22 people were injured, as the powerful impact also caused a fire on the passenger bus. As authorities detained the driver of the truck for questioning, the injured were transported to local hospitals.

No further details were immediately available.
