JETRO worried about Thailand's 350-billion-baht water program

BANGKOK, 26 July 2013 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong has disclosed that the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is worried about possible hindrances in the government’s 350-billion-baht water management program.

After meeting with JETRO representatives on Thursday, Mr Kittiratt said the executives feared that the 350-billion-baht water management program would be interrupted after the Administrative Court ordered the government to conduct public hearings before starting the program. The finance minister said he had assured the executives that the program would continue as planned and public hearings were in the process.

The JETRO executives also expressed concerns over the stability of Thai politics while indicating that although the Thai economic growth could pick up in the latter half of the year, the growth would not be as significant as last year.

Moreover, the executives called on the Thai government to adjust customs formalities and said they would submit a survey on opinions of Japanese businessmen in Thailand to the government at the end of this month.

How diplomatic. Translated from Japanese:

"Do you really expect us to just sit here and let our plants and equipment and many of our new cars get ruined by floods regularly while you sit on your asses?"

"Your political situation is severely endangering our future here. Why don't you people grow up?"

"You're throwing your economy into the dumpster while we have significant investment here. Would you like us to just move it all to Burma?"

"The corruption with your customs people is intolerable. How much longer do you think we'll put up with it?"

Actually this is code from the ptp for, screw the environmental impact studies, we can't get paid until it's built.

Jetro is worried.

And so it should be. Very.

Jethro was more amusing when he was telling his racy Cornish jokes, he isn't half as funny when talking about politics. Just waiting for Denzil Penberthy to chime in now.

So the administrative court orders the government that work cannot go ahead until public hearings have been conducted, but as usual, PTP demonstrates its total contempt for the law.

If this were treated as it is in many other countries, the person ordering the work to continue would be arrested and jailed for a short period for being in contempt of court. This is a very effective deterrent in other countries, essentially because you don't see the department No. 2 taking over and continuing the work, as he would also be made to suffer the same fate.

The law in Thailand needs to start showing its teeth...!
