Yes, you need a work permit, even if you were working for free.

Couple options

1. Your employer forms a Thai company and gets you a work permit.

2. Your employer signs a contract with a Thai Company to provide this service. The condition in the contract is you must be employed by them. This Thai Company obtains a work permit for you to perform this service.

I have been in this position many times before eventually being based here full time.We looked into this and found that it was possible toget a longer visa to cover, but other companies decided it was not worth the hassle so a weekend to HK or KL every now and then was the answer
