Is there somebody out there that can give me info on how to get my Shih Tzu to Thailand. As some of you may be aware all airlines that I know of have some sort of restrictions on pugs, bull dogs, shih tzus and other flat faced type dogs, do to health concerns about breathing issues. There is at least, summer restrictions on most breeds, but with pug nosed breeds, it seems to be extremely difficult to impossible. In total I have 3 dogs only one is snub nosed, and I am not prepared to leave him in the US. I had originally heard that snub nosed dogs could not travel in the hot summer months from June thru September so I postponed my trip to Thailand till October 2nd.

Now I'm hearing that snub nosed breeds are totally banned by many airlines. I am really getting stressed over this! Airlines also have rules that state that snub nosed dogs cannot travel if the ground temperature exceed 85 degrees at either your point of departure or your destination. As we all know, it can get pretty hot in Thailand, and if I found a way to get my dog to Thailand I would have to travel at night when it's cooler.I haved called the airlines that fly from Seattle (where i live) to Bangkok and I can't seem to get a straight answer, I want to retire in Chiang Mai! I am totally confused at this point. Thanks for hearing me out.

I think you would be well advised to consult the airline.

For example: UA http://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/travel/animals/restrictions.aspx

UA has one stop service via NRT (SEA-NRT-BKK), and you'll arrive BKK close to midnight. Not sure about BKK-CNX?

I flew UA last week and sat next to a German family relocating to Bangkok from San Francisco; they had the family dog in the hold, but not sure of the breed.

Why don't you try reading this thread:

Lots of great information. I just brought over a Yorkie, as a carry on, with UA. Worked out pretty darn well.

I called UA's office for pets and they were very responsive and very helpful. Basically telling me to do whatever you can to carry on the dog. Mainly due to the problems with customs here.

Best of luck!!!

The OP has "...3 dogs only one is snub nosed", not sure any carrier allows three (3) dogs in the cabin! Sh*t, I hope not. ;)

5555 They actually have a limit for carry on dogs for each flight. A reservation is required. I was more referring to his "problem" dog. I think if the OP could carry that one on, then the problem might be solved?
