"using counterfeit bank cards which had been loaded with stolen account information"....

I'm confuse at this. How is a card, counterfeit, loaded with stolen account information?

Sunisa.

google "card skimming"

basically it's a device attached to an atm that skims your account info, usually with a small camera that captures your pin,the criminals then use any card with a magnetic strip(phone cards, hotel room cars etc) and load the stolen info onto it and use it like a normal atm card.

I once had my credit card scammed in an Indian restaurant in Norwich whilst on holiday from Australia. They did'nt use it for six months, when it was used in a betting shop in Kent. The Commonwealth bank re embursed the whole $A4000, but i guess it would be different with a debit card.

How foolish, everybody knows you can only take out 20.000 baht at 1 time and Thai banks are charging 150 baht per transaction. They better had done the job somewhere were you can take out more.

Sorry mate, I took out 40,000 in two transactions one after the other. Kasikorn charge 15 baht, not 150.

No Thai will even look twice if you use your card twice in a row and that soon adds up.

Thanks for the information ! You sound too nice to be a WHU supporter clap2.gif

Hope they will be locked away for life and pay back with interest. Only with serious penalties it may stop these criminals.

And why is that.

The victims who lost money are insured, so they get their money back from the credit card company.

The money the banks steal from every one, you never get back.

What Credit card Company ???

This guy is in real trouble now.

He had three Thais working for him yet the law clearly states you must employ four.

Not only that. It is the banks job to rob customers - at least it is in the Western World..

These lower life forms have colleagues world-wide. Watch your off shore accounts on-line, keep only what you can afford to loose in your Thai accounts and keep a 1000 baht bill in your sock. Let's hope they get a long term in the cross-bar hotel.

Not only that. Isn't it the banks job to steal from customers? Is certainly is so in the West - and the guilty get away with it.

I wonder who are the 2 foreigners standing behind on the left? maybe interpol? or Ukranian police?

Undercover police contracting to Thai police. Essentially, they must be entrapment specialists looking to catch foreigners scheming in Thailand.

one wonders how much of this is actually the banks fault. just for example. yes they got webcams and yes face recognition software is around. so whats stopping them from using it? even just basic body shape size would be an extra clue. then theres voice recognition software? finger print scanners? .they are really not trying.

You are right, these guys really in big trouble and I believe that they do not have a work permit as well. Wonder they have a registered company or not? whistling.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Ok... I see a lot of confusion here.

Firstly the card issuer sets a daily limit. That cannot be exceeded in any 24 hour period.

Second the ATM has a limit only in how much you can withdraw in one transaction. 20K or 25K depending on the bank.

In this case the daily limits are set by the overseas bank who issued the card, and likely not higher then 25K per day, in most cases a lot less.

So the fraudster will probably only get one withdrawal per day per card using a clone of a overseas card here in Thailand, if the limit is higher than 25K then he must make more than one transaction per day per card.. not difficult.

The reason they choose Thailand is because the ATM machines here use old magnetic stripe technology, in most western countries the card will not work unless a chip is present, but they retain a magnetic stripe so they are backwards compatible with old technology that is used here.

Some confusion here, but there is no doubt that you yourself can change your daily limit of your thai ATM card, at the ATM itself. I have done so myself, to 200.000 bath total pr. day, because I needed it there and then.

Dont remember excactly how, but was guided through it. No biggie.

Secondly, limits can vary a little bit from bank to bank, and withdrawel of overseas cards of 50.000 bath is not unusual, but in most places the transaction can not exceed 20000 bath (some places 25000 bath) but can be made again.

That was my point.

Yes, but none of these are transactions with Thai cards!

As a rule, western banks have lower daily limits than Thai banks because the BANK is liable if it's a fraud. In Thailand the BANK IS NEVER LIABLE hence you can have a 200,000 baht per day limit if you wish... why should they care, they will never refund you if your money is stolen.

By contrast, my UK HSBC card has a daily limit of about 15,000 baht per day which they will not increase... because THEY are liable if its abused... same with my USA bank... they will only increase my limit if I agree to be responsible in the event of fraud.. which of course I do not!

We do not know what country the scammers were getting their card details from, so we are guessing. But as a rule, the above is true.

I am sure that if these low lifes enjoy money so much, that maybe a few years in the slammer (Jail/Gaol) will change their minds when they get told the 5 cent and 50 cent story.....

When they enter jail their butthole is the size of 5 cents.....
