Have You Noticed? I Go To Google Image,Type 'Hot Pants',Google Takes Me Shopping!

Recommended Posts

Well, when I type into Google Image the Key Words "Hot Pants", the last thing I want to do, usually, is go to Ebay.

But that is where it takes me.

How do I FIX this so it will NEVER take me shopping when I do not want to go.

I DO NOT want to be taken to Amazon either.

Maybe I want to see some babes on the beach.

Maybe a few movie stars in hot pants

Maybe Ava Gardner being kissed by Frank.

I am just sick and tired of seeing images from catalogs.

This is worse than Sears & Roebuck and their catalogs.

When I use Google Image for most anything, it is for research. Maybe a TVF posting or two.

I am sick and tired of this. No more Ebay this and Amazon that do I ever want to see, UNLESS I tell it so.

Can anyone help me?

Google image used to have advanced search, but I cannot find it now.

Even if I found it, it was never intuitive enough for my taste.

I know there are some pretty good commands for Google search, but I do not want to need to remember them.

Boolean Logic gives me gas, anyway.

These GD operators I do not like.

Please anyone, any thoughts? Enough with the shopping on Google Image.

Tks.

1. Thank you for showing that the advanced image search still exists. This feature used to be more visible in the older versions if I am not mistaken.

2. It may be only my imagination, however it does seem to me that searching in Thailand, at least on the local network where I am, that I am getting some strange image search results. I am getting TONS of what I call "commercial results", or just plain shopping ads on top, that normally companies need to pay to get me to view. Why this is, that in Thailand it should be different, I do not know. It even seems somewhat far fetched that this should be so.

3. I do wonder if there is a way to STORE custom filtering settings so that when I use Google Image I can have a database of all the sites I do not want to receive results from. I could then, every time I see an image from a site I do not want to revisit, click on the image, and the address would be added to my filter of websites to never load again. In other words, a persistent site blocker attached to both Google Image search, and Google Search.

4. I cannot cry foul if Google Image shows me 1000 images at the top from ebay the first time, but I want to add ebay to a custom filter that will always be used under certain conditions which I control. Then have several persistent customized filters that I can repeatedly use depending on the kind of results I desire. During certain conditions I will like to have Amazon and Ebay results be visible. At other times, do not show them.

5. Google Search, and Google Image, has developed pretty sophisticated filters for blocking porn. So I want the same sophisticated filters available that I can set conditions to block commercial sites, like dress companies, and auto companies, for example. I only want to see HOT PANTS on girls that are not from commercial sites. Exactly how to set up a filter using the available Advanced Image controls, so far I do not know.

Does anyone here understand what I am wishing I can do?

And then how do you do it without a lot of work?

I want to be able to add the sites I do not want OVER TIME, as they present themselves.

I do not want to set up this complicated custom filter every time I go to use Google Image. That would be nuts.

Sorry, if my question is very obvious to some. Actually, I have done very little, if any, playing around with Google Image. I only know that my image searches seem weird to me in Thailand. I never get so many uninteresting results in Taiwan, where I have been using Google since it began being Google, but not as far back as when it was a "research project" in a university dorm.

Thanks.

I don't know why you seem to be getting so many ads. I entered hotpants into Google images and got lots of hits without ads after which I had to go have a lie down. biggrin.png

What do you get with this search? //removed - too risque - Tywais//

Oh, You Kidder! (Cagney?)

------------------------------------

Anyway, here is the whole story:

I was trying to get one or two images which looked like what I had seen at the small Thai restaurant I visited earlier today, so that I could put two or three on my Topic post. What I saw at the restaurant was a pair of "high waisted green hotpants" , or what they used to call short-shorts back, I guess, in the 1950s.

Anyway, I typed in "green high waisted hot pants" and I really did get almost nothing but big retailer sites. Please try it, it is not as good as your results though. This happens too often that I am getting these global retailers.

Also, sorry that you got to the hotpants site with real hotpants. I did not see this before, and of course probably not so good to post many of these on TVF, I do agree.

But now in my own defense after I more closely examine your hotpants link, I do see that truly a very great many are nothing but ads or images for stores selling hotpants. Take a look now that you are rested from your lie down.

And they are really not what I was looking for.

So now I think I do still maintain that all these ads are getting in the way of what I want to see.

Here is another example, I want to see "High Waisted shorts dancers", because I was looking for the type of shorts that female dancers used to wear during dance practice for various chorus girl numbers. I am not joking though, that all I seem to get are a lot of ads from Amazon.

Again, is this just my imagination that Taiwan was different from Thailand for "Image Search results" results?

THANK YOU for your reply.

I am sure you would like Cagney

A very smart man.

I just tried a google on hot pants and was presented with images of out of breath dogs (fours legs)

Being a curious sort, I did a search on kinky boots, and it took me straight to a Linux download.

What am I doing wrong?

Searching the web has come a long way since the early days of the Internet. The most important thing nowadays is not to be economical with words. You can even use whole sentences like, for example, please show me images of women in green high waisted hot pants. I did a search just now without the please show me and got this result:

https://www.google.com/search?q=images+of+women+in+green+high+waisted+hot+pants&oq=images+of+women+in+green+high+waisted+hot+pants&aqs=chrome.0.69i57.644j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

The first non-sponsored link is Images for women in green high waisted hot pants

Not all images on that page are of hot pants, not all hot pants are green, but you still get a a couple of green high-waisted hot pants, it seems.

Well, for starters:

Are you Googling in Thailand? That could be one factor.

And sometimes it helps to put the key words your are searching for between quote marks.

That is one type of command I learned years ago.

Other than that? Maybe someone has hacked your computer and are feeding spurious key words into your filter.

That might be it.

Call the guy that fixes your computer, maybe?

The user-customisable negative list of companies whose pages you do not wish to see would probably have to be in the form of a browser extension. If no such extension exists yet, get somebody to create it.

Where can one submit a suggestion for a new browser extension one would like to have?

Thank you Maestro, for your interest.

(And thank you for your visa help months ago)

But you see, when I go to the link you have, I still see so many of the images are basically just results from companies like Ebay or another retailer or seller.

This is definitely not what I want. I do not want any of these.

-----------------

Also it is interesting that you mention that the machine translation capabilities of Google Search has become so much more advanced. It can interpret from actual sentences what we are actually seeking.

I don't know if this is the same technology as that IBM playing Jeoapardy, but this could not happen without much faster machines and better design and programing.

So I think this may just be completely intentional on Google's part.

And so I want to find some way around it.

I am not a big shopper.

And anyway, with a image search engine like this, how does one do research with it.

My latest hotpants fiasco is just one example of many since I got here to Thailand.

Over here, it seems that all I see are ads. Or mostly ads.

I could try a proxy server to see what happens then.

Just to prove to myself that I really am not dreaming this.

Again thanks for the BKK visa location help!

I did not forget.

Yes, I was also thinking about a browser extension for Chrome.

There are a million of them for the Mozilla Project and FireFox.

The problem is that I do not think Google would be as likely to create one because Google relies on advertising income to keep itself alive.

But for people who need Google Image for serious research, then I do not know what they do.

Because for research use, as it stands, Google Image is not useless, but almost useless and very time consuming to separate out the retailer crappola.

In that case, build your negative lists and bookmark the results page (0 found). Then you can just click the bookmark and add your search terms at will.

I don't buy your arguement that this is Google's job - it's yours. Google returns everything related to your term - it's up to you to refine that search and get individual output.

Sorry, I really did not mean to imply or state that I thought it was Google's job.

They do what they do to make money. That is the way it should be.

And, I happen to love Google, and I use no other search engine.

I am just very disgruntled that so far I cannot find a way to filter out the more commercial related images. Something easy I can set up, and then use without altering it as long as I want.

Because I only want to see what is posted by users such as maybe you, me, some talented photographers, and others that are non-commercial sites which are intent on selling to me when I am not interested in buying.

What is needed as has been said, if there is nothing that Google has in its existing advanced search controls, is an extension, such as we use all the time.

thai girls high waist shorts

works for me.

Thank you but NO IT ACTUALLY DOES NOT WORK FOR ANYONE.

Please return to the "thai girls high waist shorts" s

Search you were doing

When you actually do this search and pay attention, all this crappola is still ads, ads, and more ads.

In this case, these are product ads from ALIBABA which as we all know is a B2B site for importers/exporters/traders.

Thank you again,

For proving my point

Tried another search engine eg. duckduckgo? Cheers, AA

Thank you.

I just tried it with "high waisted hotpants"

Just more crappola from Ebay and other retailers like Nautica BS brand.

But thanks!

Let us say you were doing some research for a anthropology or sociology thesis and needed info on fashion in Thailand over the past 30 years, then how much time would be wasted searching through this chaff?

It seems that now the image search has changed since I recall it in other areas and that all I get are these types of results.

This is very different from what I was used to very recently.

Do the bookmark tip I posted above - it will do what you want.

You will definitely have to build them by hand, but only once. Or find ones built by others (Flavia's SE Lore for example).

Then it's trivial to concatenate them with "-" and

" ", either automagically, or more manually in something like Excel.

You could of course just pull all commercial sites off something like DMOZ and voila ...

But it raises the important question: is it better for you to filter at time of search, or blanket remove everything (why remove handbag websites from a hot pants search?)

Thank you I will do this if it is the only way.

But to me this raises an interesting question about net neutrality and also, what happens if a country blocks or filters out regular content and then all the ads come to the forefront.

Do you think that these factors could be a partial factor in the differences I see in results from Image search in Thailand vs outside Thailand?

Any thoughts about this, or is this just a non-issue for search.
