A coworker of mine is currently sorting through a strange situation - I wanted to see if anyone had any insight.

We work at Mahidol University's Salaya Campus, and our College's HR office takes care of preparing paperwork for all international teachers for visa extensions. Today he went with the HR officer and two other teachers to the Nakhon Pathom Immigration office to extend his Visa for another year ( Non-Immigrate Type B ). The first two teachers were processed with no problems, but when they arrived at my friend, they told him that he needed to provide a "residency certification" from his apartment landlord. Apparently this is a new requirement that none of our HR officers were aware of, and put my friend in a difficult situation because his Visa expires today, and trying to track down an apartment owner in a few hours notices practically impossible. (500 baht fine per day starting tomorrow)

The interesting part of the story is that the two coworkers who were processed before my friend did not have to produce this form because the immigration officers "forgot". But my friend, who was the 3rd of the group, was unable to get the renewal without it. Our HR Office renews 60-70 international teachers a year, and knew nothing about this new form requirement. It wasn't required of me when I renewed in Mid May.

Anyone know anything about this? Is it new?

Not new, in fact very old requirement but untill recently not enforced. It seems they started enfrocing the requirement to have the housemaster report your address again. Especially for condo's, hotels and guesthouses.
