window screening replacement and repair

Recommended Posts

Posted

At home, the window screen mesh on several screens has become ratty and needs replacement. The aluminum frames are fine. I need someone to replace the screening. Used to have a guy, but he has changed telephone numbers and I can't reach him.

I have searched the site only to find three rather dated references, only one of which possibly useful. Does anyone have up-to-date contact and/or shop location information. Telephone numbers would be handiest since the repairman would need to visit first to estimate the job.

Many thanks.

Not feeling well Mapguy? Those guys are all over the place, drive slow, look around, aluminum window shops do screens, local guy will give you the best price because he does not have to travel far. Since there are only several, take them to the shop yourself for a bargain. My guy is in Mae Rim not too far past the midtown traffic light on the left so you could drop them off on your way to Prem and pick them up on the return.

We just had some screen work done a few days ago and I was very happy with the price and quality of work. The guy only speaks Thai, but he gave a firm written quote prior to starting the work, 1,000B deposit, total bill was $2,450.

Work done:

- repairs to 2 sliding screen door frames, and screens replaced at front of the house

- custom built screen door and mounted frame at rear of house

- replaced lock on sliding glass doors

- misc repairs to gf's mother screen door at their home

phone on business card is 085-6157246 - my gf handled the booking (her deceased father built houses so she has some good contacts) I do not know the guy's name the card is in Thai language. She may have got a deal I do not know?

I am late to thank you for this recommendation. Here are some comments on this repairman.

He was prompt showing up to do an estimate, which he did not provide to me, just saying "Not expensive."

Took two screen doors to repair glide springs in the shop and make some minor modifications.

Returned at designated time and took about two hours (with assistant) to do the remaining screen replacement.

DId NOT clean up after the work.

I did not get quotes from others. I went with the flow based on your recommendation not feeling it fair to the workers and also not really convenient nor necessarily productive to call a lot of people out for relatively minor work.

Workmanship ok except for one screw-up he made in the shop and corrected (somewhat sloppily) on site, and he did not clean up the work site.

You can't really compare one job to another easily, but I'd say that your gf did get a good deal: custom-built screen door, lock replacement, et cetera. A written quote is not a bad idea.

Recommendation: OK for relatively inexpensive work. Wouldn't rave about him, but sufficient if you keep a better eye on him than I did.

Anyway, the job is done, and thank you.

Thanks for your follow-up report. Helps to keep things in balance.

I always ask for a quote or estimate for every job I get done, both here and in Canada in previous years back.

Sorry you did not get a top professional job, I will not recommend him to anyone in the future. Thinking perhaps my gf's connection helped us in this case, she knows I am a stickler for quality (and get pissed at sloppy work) so she knows to stress that fact to all trades people we deal with. I will pay extra (and tip) for good quality work but have no tolerance for crap.
