Favourable posts about Pattaya (in Phuket forum!)

I am off to Phuket for a holiday and was looking in the Phuket forum for advice and came across a thread Pattaya vs. Phuket. I expected the usual Pattaya trashing posts as you would get here. But no. Overall the beaches in Pattaya took a bashing (as is right and proper) but otherwise the general concencus was that Pattaya was an ok place. Reasonable comparisons and some well thought out threads.

pLENTY OF DECENT BEACHES WITHING 20 MINUTES OF pATTAYA/JOMTIEN

Whenever I leave Pattaya for a few weeks or couple months (such as at Songkran), it's always nice to get back. I think the feeling really isn't uncommon, though what w/ all the relentless bashing by our trolls and the self-righteous, you'd never know it.

I been posting in Phuket forum regarding Phuket versus Pattaya.

I lived on Phuket for 3 years so I know both places quite well.

I prefer Pattaya for many reasons.

It depends on what you are looking for. I have a friend who never leaves Soi Buakhow unless he absolutely has to, lives right there. I have a neighbor who hasn't been in central Pattaya for almost 4 years! He just can't stand the traffic.

Luckily, there's lots of different options here. Many who live "in" Pattaya actually live outside of town. Only going in for shopping and entertainment.

The beaches are not the best, but hey, this is a gulf and we just don't get the clear water like other places. South of Pattaya are some good beaches. Bang Saray is quite nice. And just off shore are some beautiful islands. Was out there 2 weeks ago and saw some very nice corals and quite a few small reef fish.

not surprised by that

you can't talk positively about Pattaya on the Pattaya forum

too many hostiles.....

I agree that there seems to be an abundant amount of people who aren't happy with Pattaya, but then again they may be unhappy back in their native country for one reason or another. Their paradise may not exist but no reason for me not to enjoy the remaining years that I have leftt on this planet.

I've run across many people, who if given a pot of gold, would complain that it was too heavy or that someone else's pot was shinier than theirs.

I listen to their unhappiness, smile and continue on with life. It's way too short to pay any attention to their negative and sad existence. Smile and be happy. smile.png

You have to keep in mind that for every one complainer, back living in British council estates are hundreds, if not thousands, whose fondest dream it is to move to Pattaya and never leave. :)

Plenty of decent beaches within 20 minutes of Pattaya/Jomtien

Can you be more precise ? Where ?

If you just drive South from Jomtien and where possible stick to the coast road it is mostly one long continuous beach with no deck chairs or vendors and only the odd scattered huts selling refreshments. Apart from a few locals on the beaches they are pretty much deserted and sometimes even desolate. it will take longer than 20 minutes to get there but they are there.

...but do not forget many are LOADED with garbage?

Sometimes yes, many times no. Depends on the wind direction. I went for an hour walk today and saw NO garbage. Unfortunately, sewage from pretty much every city in Thailand is dumped into every lake, river and ocean all over the Kingdom. Water quality is dodgy at best.

Drive down past Utapo airport keep going until you come to the naval jetty gates, take a left and follow the road around. Best beach on the mainland anywhere near Pattaya. The beach is controlled by the navy and you may be asked to pay 20 baht entry fee. Maybe more like a 30 minute drive but worth it. Food and beer are available at very reasonable prices.

Just like it is difficult to write positive things about Thailand on TV.
