CTH Premiership football Udon Thani - help

Recommended Posts

Posted

A friend who has no access to the internet and lives 25km outside of Udon Thani, near Nong Han has just found out (he doesn't get out much) that EPL is not on True anymore.

I have searched various threads for him but cannot find anything definite so here are my question to help a 75 year old who wants to watch the footy at home.

Presently he is with Truemove

1) What are his options to get CTH in his home?

2) Who can he contact in Udon Thani to talk about these options

3) Is there an address in Udon Thani or a phone number he can call to talk to someone who knows (well his wife, he doesn't speak Thai)

Thank you for any help you may give. I can phone him up and tell him what to do.

There are numerous threads on here giving information regarding CTH and EPL coverage.

Check this one below.

Alternatively use the search function and search CTH on the forum here.

Cheers.

To save you a trawl, here's a synopsis:

CTH

Has a package that includes all EPL games (but not European leagues or pan-European cup games);

Also includes much of what is on True's Gold package or its equivalent (eg Sky News not BBC Worldwide) - major exceptions are no rugby, no pan-European cup games, no financial programmes like Bloomberg, less coverage of US sports;

Installation cost including dish ThB 534, deposit for digibox ThB 1,800, mileage to come to your place 25k from UT dealer - maybe a couple of hundred baht; Package rental cost, 962 baht pcm:

Promotional packages exist - eg pay up front for 10 months (ThB 9,620'ish) and get 12 months; longer packages exist with bigger savings but not many people are prepared to trust that far forward

Dish points in opposite direction to True, so new (additional?) dish needed

All prices above include VAT where relevant

TRUE

His next decision is whether to keep True, perhaps downgrading to one of the lower value packages. Some people like me are taking this route to keep a few more football and sporting options open. Maybe try that for a month or two and then abandon True if he finds he does not need True and CTH is working well/fulfilling needs.

PM me if you want a free copy of my spreadsheet that does a comparison of what channels are offered by CTH and each of the 5 True packages (with their relative revised costs and commentary on channel content).

If he does get rid of True then he should make sure he gets his 2,000 baht deposit back.

Hey Santi .. hope you're well .. was it you amongst the Boo Boys at the Emirates the other day?!!?

Any how; back to the thread .. which Ubon/Sisaket based company will you be using for the CTH Installation, I'm a tad in the dark around here. Like you I won't be cancelling True, mainly because of my 6 year old's 7PM Tom & Jerry ritual.

Cheers

Hi Patriot,

No - I'm a reformed boo boy since Arsene pulled off the miracle of top 4 (again) last season. Getting ansy for names in the frame though.

Are you on cable or nearish to a cable supply in Warin? If yes get back to me and I'll look up the local official CTH Cable 'dealers'. Might be worth you checking out the cable guys first anyway as some cable network extensions are being done where demand merits it and I believe that connections are fairly reasonably priced even if they have to run a hundred metres of cable to sign you up. If you are quite sure there is no cable within shouting distance then you'll need a satellite dealer.

The official dealer list for satellite installations and billing/support thereafter - from the CTH website (in Thai) translated into English via Google translate - gives the following listings for Ubon/Warin (the rest of satellite dealer network for the southern half of Issan is covered in one of my posts on the thread URL'd at the bottom of this posting):

"Partnership Chamrap 045321567 Ubon Ratchathani.
Limited. Ubon Wireless Networks 090-8268889 Ubon Ratchathani"

I used one in Meuang Sisaket, who sent an installer contractor (from Ubon and in True Visions attire!) within 2 working days of phoning them (one week ago) and who had a very helpful customer service rep answering the phones; she struggled with her patchy English and my patchy Thai and we got there in the end with a few interventions from a disinterested Ann! If you are getting bollux on timing or price from the Ubon dealers, then try the Sisaket dealer:

Sisaket 089-717 6866 Ban Pho Thong

[The Sisaket dealer charged me 500 baht for the 64k they thought it was* from Meuang Sisaket to my house (45 k away) and then actually drove from Ubon]. *It's a long story and is all TW Ann's fault for not listening to me when relaying how to describe where we livesmile.png but I was happy with the fairness of the xtra cost anyway.

Cheers, don't hesitate to PM or post if you need more. I've URL'd below the best ThaiVisa thread to be browsing at this stage of the game:

Thank you for your help. I will pass on what I can for my friend.

@stoneyboy I hope you didn't feel that I was wasting your time. I had searched on this forum and several others to get the specific information I wanted which was basically the practical reality of getting CTH into a rural village. I did search again and couldn't find anything specific enough. Thank you though.

@santisuk Nice of you to offer the comparisons however I know my friend is only interested in the football so just CTH will do.

It looks like he can't get it at the moment. We are still working on it and if I get any helpful information I will post it for others to use.

Stuart, I dont think he was giving you comparisons, he was talking about who to get to fit up a satelite system on the Vietnamese satelite in order to receive CTH programmes.

Why do you say you cant get a satelite at the moment??? Surely, so long as your friend has an electricity supply then he can have a satelite fitted and watch the Footy to his hearts content.

So basically my question would be, is it worth changing. Although I love my football (man city for the league this year), there are a few other channels that my thai wife likes, because she finds it the best way to understand english, I.E. Diva Universal, AXN, and a couple of channels that show cooking programmes like hells kitchen and masterchef, which i don't think are available on CTH. What do CTH have in comparrison, and also movie channels. I don't mind swapping sky news for bbc news, and also there is the best comedy programme on tv Fox News. Lastly does anyone know yet if the commentary on the EPL is in english or thai, as they are 2 seperate contracts that they have to buy. Oh just one other thing guys, my wife paid the fone bill today and TOT gave her a free gift of a IPTV HD box, any idea what i do with it, as i am clueless when it comes to all these gadgets, can just about turn on my comp. thanks for any help.

I'm your man for comparisons. PM me your email and I'll send you a channel comparison line-up for True (all packages) and CTH in Excel format.

The short answer to at least a couple of your questions is that yes CTH replicates all the peripheral English language rubbish that True excelled in - only the channel names are different. She can wallow in all those American crime and sitcom series, reality TV, cooking programmes, property programmes, wildllife and truckers on iced roads programmes, bearded wonders in shitkicker heaven - junk junk and more junk (which I occasionally find myself watching late at night!). Some occasional good stuff - Madmen, Spooks, House etc, but it's all a matter of personal taste.

IMO the offerings between True (Gold package and even the Super Knoweldge package) are very similar to CTH's offering with that one notable exception of EPL when considering True Gold and the lesser exceptions (for most people's tastes, but important to me) of no dedicated rugby channel, financial&markets channels and no international news channels on CTH (Sky and Fox are for more parochial than BBC world and CNN - some like PattayaPat seemingly prefer that - nothing wrong with us all having different tastes and there's not much point asking for other people's opinion on which is bestsmile.png). On the other hand CTH has a better range of kids programmes and throws in a mainstream channel from each of Australia, China, Japan and maybe France (the last is scheduled but I can't find it on set).

An example of one of the comparison worksheets I anally knocked up is attached below - one sheet just about squeaks under ThaiV's file size limit and they appear not to accept Excel files as attachments

thanks santisuk, just trying to find out how many english language movie channels there are. by the way did you have any idea what that free thing TOT gave was for.

The IPTV box gets tv over the internet, you have to plug in an ADSL cable from your PC and I believe you have to pay rent to someone for the service.

It can be very good but you have to have an English version as compared to a Thai version if you want the best out of it. They also do Russian versions and Chinese versions etc etc.

Why not try Googling "IPTV" and see for yourself. Its an amazing thing Google. lol

Yes this - about dealers in Udon - was proberbly helpful for me, because I have already got CTH installed by the local CABLE company Udon Cable... But the picture is bad and lose the signal all the time. Now waiting for the serviceman , but he looks not show up. I Want have an explanation on what is wrong... Is it a major problem they have it looks like I must have an satellite CTH option.
