retirement visa requirements funds

Featured Replies

I'm a male from the united states and my age is 61. I plan on going for a retirement visa in thailand. I will have $1,500US monthly coming from my S.S. retirement fund. I know that doesn't meet the 65,000bth requirement by thailand. Will some office's in thailand let me do a combo were I can money in a thai bank and what would that amount be?. I know I'm missing $600.00 per month of income. So,do I need to just have 12 X $600.00 =$7,200 in a thai bank account??

Any office in Thailand will allow you to do the combination of income and money in the bank in Thailand.

Rule is: yearly income plus money in the bank in Thailand must be 800,000 baht.

Always best to have a little more in the bank account than needed, because of currency fluctuations.

At a rate of 30 baht per US$

1500 x 12 x 30 = 540,000 + 260,000 = 800,000

So at that rate you would need 260,000 baht in bank. Normally this does not have to be in any set time but a few offices will insist on the 2 or 3 month time as for using only bank deposit amount. As said make sure amount in bank is enough for currency exchange rate fluctuation.

phuket has no time that the money needs be in the bank for the combo method and they used 31 last month

I have also heard from two friends that the embassies they went to put the gross income on the income certificate not the net received after tax. Is this right or commonplace as it certainly helps to make the 800,000. Interested as I have to do soon. Also are all the offices clued up on the extension to the validity of the income certificate from 15 days to 6 months.

Income is gross. And yes 6 month validity but for those getting themselves no reason to do nearly that early for most people.

The US Embassy, American Citizen Services section, has an Outreach Program where they visit different cities around Thailand.

You can get your income letter from them without an appointment.

Check their site for locations and dates.

61/SS = ?

"61/SS?"

Disability, presumably. My older brother started receiving SS at 60.

I live here for 5 years now. I am 65. I am American. Just go to the US Embassy related to your location. Make an appoitment on its Internet site, fill the statement saying that you have a $2800 monthly income. Do not need to show any documentation about. Pay $50 to the teller, and wait for the teller to call you back. Sign the statement under oat, and go to the Thai immigration office, not bank account needed. Bring lease contract or any document about your addres in Thailand and a copy of all pages of your passport, entry card, and 2 pictures. Pay 1,900 THB. You done.

Do not do this before 15 days or your due date at the Thai Immigration office. You will have to do this every year, and show up to the immigration office every 3 months with the same set of copies to just say Hello to some beautiful Thai officers for free. Who knows?

Join a Expat Group in your town and have a very good time. Welcome to Thailand

Actually some of that information is only valid for your office. The normal allowed time before expiration has been 30 days and is now reported to be 45 days (although for retirement 2 weeks should be plenty of time as not much chance of forgetting anything - even with our old minds). If extension in Bangkok one photo on TM.7 is all that is required. Nothing is required other than previous receipt and new TM47 for 90 day address reports.

I think OP is close to being 62 which is minimum for SS. You can apply up to 3 months before 62nd birthday.

There is ONLY one US embassy but many outreach dates for consoler visits;

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/consular_outreach_fy2012.html

Phuket requires a letter from your Bank or SS backing up ur claim that u swear to to get ur US income letter.

Max 30 days before ur due expiration date

Actually the US also has a Consulate in Chiang Mai.

In other words, as the OP stated that his monthly income from Social Security is $1500 per month and the above suggests that he claim under oath $2800 as his monthly income, do not let the fact that the OP would be knowingly making a false statement to a US Government official in his/her official capacity which is a federal felony get in the way of his having a very good time and enjoying his stay in Thailand. Maybe nothing will happen as a result, but, who knows?
