BANGKOK: -- Eleven police officers were expelled from the civil service today after a photo of them throwing hi-low dice swept through the internet.

The squad of law enforcement officers were sent to a field adjacent to Parliament yesterday. Thousands of protesters are expected to stage a rally against the controversial Amnesty Bill in the area today.

Since the group of policemen had one free whole night prior to the rally, they decided to spend their time in a hi-low ring set up inside the Public Sector Development Commission building opposite to the House.

They say they were sacked... just words, more than likely just moved to an inactive post so they can play more Hi-Lotongue.png

I don't see any Singha bottles??

Totally reprehensible. mad.gif

Any decent Thai cop would know the right thing to do would be to wait until AFTER the protest, and then go play hi-low.

Fast indeed but if we consider this a relatively minor offence why don't they move at such speed to sort out the serious stuff ?

Stuck in somebody's " TOO HARD " tray I suppose.

I don't see any Singha bottles??

Maybe they thought it would be irresponsible to drink on duty.

sacked is a slang word, maybe in this case they weren't fired but they got 'sacked' for getting caught whistling.gif

Sacked?.......They weren't promoted to an inactive post?????Amazing.

If any of them lost money at Hi-Lo this money can easy be recouped by sending them on traffic duties for a couple of hours.

Not sure how they are recongized as cops, we seem to see monks dressed as cops, a red shirt leader had a police uniform on today in a no go zone, lots of cop impersonators caught out in past few months. Then we have the cops who dress like normal citizens, thugs, etc with no uniform.

I agree that 'sacked' is probably a term used for a hand slap. Doubt that any of those pictured will testify for the proscution, so no witnesses, who will file a charge, the police?, That iis probably one of the least harmful activities this bunch of cops pursue, It keeps them off the streets and amoungest their own kind.

Double lost....what they go now?

They will all be politicians next month wearing red shirts w00t.gif

I'd be hanging low for a while if i was that photographer !!!

Hi-lo - is that the same as hi-so with an L plate?

Time for a pick-me-up methinks.

Sent to an ACTIVE post, meaning-looking for future work. dont forget they will not lose the part pension-??? and any side business they had anyway...in other words they will not be destitute.

@ Bluespunk - I think hi-lo is a form of gambling that goes back a long time in Thailand. Used to be played at festivals, funerals etc.

Now played by police in the park.

Presumably it was a colleague who took the happy snap and uploaded it. He'll be popular

80% of the Thai Police Force should be sacked. The country might then move forward if they can find some good people to replace them with

So they played a game - big deal.

What is this Amnesty Bill, that's what I want to know?

What's hi-lo?

If it's the same as in Macau casinos where it's called Daai - Sai it needs 3 dice and a sheet with number combinations to forecast what total number with come up. In Macau the dice are placed on a pad and covered with a cup which is then shaken by mechanical means and the dice then exposed.

Anyone could organize a road block, oooh sorry you meant good people.

What would be needed is a brand new set up, similar to UK police, moneis collected for any offence goes to government. Apart from some over zealous traffic police and household thefts reported that mostly are not dealt with as Insurance claims see to it. Otherwise in general they are respected and helpful, and walk the streets, also usually 1 will live in each village, and crimes can be tackled locally.

Just a pity Thailand cannot adopt UK system of policing, as now 80% --a guess--hate the bib and do NOT respect them. Problem here is that people are afraid of any authority-----UP TO NOW.

sacked = they were giving a sack full of beer & money to go sit at home for the next month

Don't hold your breath.
