August 9, 201312 yr Now we have a choice of decent bread in town it's time to get picky about the rolls available, or hamburger buns to offer a translation for our American members. I'd like to point out here and now that anything even remotely sweet doesn't qualify, if I want a sugar bun I'll buy a doughnut. I've had good rolls this last week from bakeries only meters apart, the little Top supermarket one and the one across the way with the funny Japanese name. Had one tonight with a little thinly sliced local beef and some fried onions. Trick is to sear the beef quickly so the blood soaks into the bottom half of the roll.
August 10, 201312 yr Author You don't know what the bread situation was like here a few years back. We discussed it like our immediate southern neighbours go on about the search for perfect hamburger.

August 10, 201312 yr Bread roll central......I think I understand, yes so very important Give us this day our daily bread. Bread is the staff of life. “Oh, God above, if heaven has a taste it must be an egg with butter and salt, and after the egg is there anything in the world lovlier than fresh warm bread and a mug of sweet golden tea?” Frank McCourt, ‘Angela's Ashes’ (1996) Of course we take a strong interest here as our lives here are even better with good bread here and VF probably thinks Starbucks too. August 10, 201312 yr Bread rolls such an interesting topic................Having a slow day are you? And yet it was seemingly interesting enough for you to not only read,, but to reply Edited August 10, 201312 yr by Will27
August 10, 201312 yr Does it really matter what we are talking about? The important thing is that we are talking to each other.
August 10, 201312 yr Does it really matter what we are talking about? The important thing is that we are talking to each other. And why does the topic have to be interesting anyway? Scea's post was informative so that's all that counts really. If you see a post which doesn't "interest" you, don't open it.

Interesting point of view, putting forth the idea that being informative is the only thing which really counts. I am much more interested in posts which stimulate thought, questioning, introspection and interaction. Being informative is definitely not at the top of the list, for me anyway.

In hindsight, I could've left out the "so that's all that counts", but it's nitpicking/sematics anyway. There's a ton of posts on here that are, funny, interesting, thought provoking and idiotic etc etc. I just couldn't see the point in opening a post which was clearly described in the heading, (bread rolls) and then taking the time to post about it. A bit like I'm starting to do here I guess. And BTW, I don't have a list Edited August 10, 201312 yr by Will27

August 10, 201312 yr Bread.... I love the smell! I miss the taste! I've stopped eating grains and dropped 10 kilo's. Beer....thats a little harder. It is still a grain based product but the smell of fresh baked beer just isn't as inviting but harder to abstain from. lol We were at Central today and I watched a farang choosing the right loaf at that Japanese sorta named place we buy our baked goods at just outside of Tops..... I had to wonder if it was a poster from here! lol I do miss baked goods. In the words of that great philosopher and amazing actor, Homer Simpson......... Hmmmmmmm, donuts!
August 10, 201312 yr My wife had to stop baking bread for me as I had no self-control and would succumb to the that blissful aroma and eat far too much. The house filled with the smell of freshly baked bread is absolutely intoxicating.

I love fresh bread and will check out the new place. I usually buy some from the Tops bakery. I only get this chance about once a month so I will indulge.
August 10, 201312 yr My wife had to stop baking bread for me as I had no self-control and would succumb to the that blissful aroma and eat far too much. The house filled with the smell of freshly baked bread is absolutely intoxicating. I can identify with that. Back in the day, oh soooooooo long ago, I would come home from school and my mom would have fresh baked loaves on the kitchen counter and the smell everywhere. One of my favourite childhood memories. The butter melting on the still hot from the oven bread................ Top that off with the home made fruit jams she made, wow! Hey Mom, I know your watching! Thank you for that!!!!!
August 10, 201312 yr We make a loaf every 4 or 5 days. I will have to eat more so I can enjoy that new bread aroma more often.
August 10, 201312 yr Author We never made bread when I was a kid, there was a bakery in our town but I picked up a bread maker myself in later years. As VF said, self control goes out the door when the bread comes out of it. When I lived in Vientiane they used to sell fresh baked French loaves near the morning Market at around midnight, we used to pick up a couple on the way home after a night out. My lady friend at the time used to pour half a tin of sweetened condensed milk on hers. When I bought bread at the Jed Yod Road guest house I used to slice it myself, something I hadn't done for years, I even had to look for a bread knife. Brought back memories, we take sliced bread for granted these days unless you buy continental loaves. I remember Don made some good bread for a while.
