Obtaining Laos visa in advance?

Featured Replies

I'm in a bit of a rush to get to the Thai embassy in Vientiane, so to save time I was thinking of obtaining my Laos visa before I leave. Is this still possible? Would this avoid a potentially lengthy que at the border and allow me straight through?

You can get visa at Lao Embassy in Bangkok. It is same day service.

"Same day service," for an extra baht 400 I think it is. And "same day" is about one hour last time I did it.

Yes, you'll potentially save time, from a little bit to perhaps an hour. Just depends on whether or not a busload of people needing Visa On Arrival unloads before you get there.

Ah, this update from last year says baht 200 for the expedited service, better deal now:

It will make life a lot easier doing in in BKK. The touts at Nong Kai are a pain.

It can also be done at the Laos consul in Khon Kaen.

FYI, I don't think the Lao Embassy accepts U.S. $$$ so be prepared to pay the freight in baht. That'll make it a tad more expensive than at Lao Immigration at Thannaleng, but not a whole lot. $35 for AmCits there.

How are you getting to Vientiane?

It's a long bus ride from Bangkok.
