So the police whacked the fella. Are we surprised? Thailand and political killings are common. I wonder what Thaksin's cronies are going to say now! clap2.gif alt=clap2.gif>

I wondered why there was such a rush to cremate the body.

Hmmm. What will Pol Capt Chalerm say now?

Mr C. aka the Labour Minister has much more important things on his mind. In less than 5 months if Mr Thaksin is not back in Thailand, he is due to be decapitated.

Serious business that.

What police ond/or military hit man would be so unprofessional as to wear his uniform? Was this to throw suspicion on the BiB and/or military or maybe help intimidate the driver? Even if the driver were to be 100% truthful, which I doubt is possible, we will never know what happened other than Akeyuth was murdered by someone for some reason.

It's pure arrogance. So what if he's a cop or a soldier moonlighting as a hitman? He knows he can't be touched especially since he's killing someone who's been a pain in the ass for the Thaksin party. The police as we are seeing now are already telling us another story and are closing the case. You think they're going to investigate this new allegation on one of their own?

We may never know what really happened but I believe the driver more then I would the police who have everything to gain covering for their master in Dubai and his underlings.

It is of course not unprofessional to wear a police uniform while moonlighting as hitman. It helps to avoid a blue-on-blue (or better brown-on-brown) encounter or become a victim of friendly fire. And it is vital for the initial securing of evidence - have a load of journalists and neighbours trample all around the crime scene or seal it off.

I didn't mean to insinuate in my post that it WASN'T the police. They have been proven in many court cases to be responsible for contract and personal killing. gl555, you are certainly correct that arrogance is not considered a vice among police officers. MikeOboe57, you make several good points. I have a much wider viewpoint now.

DEATH OF AKEYUTH
'Uniformed man killed Akeyuth'

BANGKOK: -- SUWAT APAIPAK, the lawyer of slain businessman Akeyuth Anchanbutr, revealed yesterday that the victim's driver Santiphap Pengduang has retracted his initial confession and is now saying that he and his accomplices were given Bt3 million to kill Akeyuth. The suspect has also said that a "uniformed person" killed the outspoken businessman using a "special method".

Suwat also announced that he was withdrawing from the case as he wasn't being paid and received death threats on a daily basis.

When Santiphap asked to meet Suwat at the Bangkok Remand Prison, Suwat sent another lawyer on his behalf. The suspect then allegedly told the lawyer that Akeyuth's murder was not a simple robbery but an assassination in exchange for Bt3 million.

Suwat cited Santiphap as saying he had tried to kill Akeyuth twice before but failed, hence the person who hired them had a "uniformed person" kill the businessman using a "special method".

The lawyer went on to say that he had asked city police chief Pol Lt-General Camronwit Toopgrajank and investigators how Akeyuth's murder could be considered a robbery when the culprits reportedly threw the valuables in the river. He also asked how the hard disk of security camera in the businessman's house could have gone missing.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Police deputy chief Anuchai Lekbumrung insisted that the investigators were working on the case based on the evidence present and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) could hand in any useful information it might have. He also pointed out that the investigation team's results did not contradict the NHRC's results, adding that the police was ready to provide explanations. Insisting that the police had enough evidence to prosecute the four suspects in police custody and that the case was a robbery, he said the team would present its results to the public prosecutor this week. Anuchai also said he had not heard about Akeyuth's relatives being unhappy with the investigation and that they planned to ask the Central Investiga-tion Bureau take over the case, adding that they were within their right.

Something to the effect, No reliable evidence, plus the corpse has been cremated.

His mouth and booze, and maybe this case, got his ass where he belongs, at a lower position at the Ministry. All the locals call him a buffalo, c'mon.

I predict.........this will never be solved, which is about

the exact same result in other high profile cases with important

people involved in either the pointy end of the gun, or the

trigger end of the gun. Muddy the waters by throwing out a bunch

of different theories, and let time fade things away. Classic

Thai murder investigation !!!!

Considering just how active the victim was in criticizing certain people I don't think (unless you're involved in law enforcement here ) you would have to look to far or long to find who was responsible for the killing
