Prime Minister to Visit Tajikistan and Pakistan

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from 19 to 21 August 2013.

She will depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 8:00 a.m. on 19 August. Accompanying the Prime Minister during this trip will be members of the private sector engaged in the fields of food and agricultural products, energy and alternative energy, gems and jewelry, tourism, hospital business and medical services, and construction.

On 19 August, Prime Minister Yingluck and President of Tajikistan Emomalii Rahmon will hold bilateral talks on trade and investment, technical cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest, as well as multilateral cooperation, to bring about an enhanced development partnership between the two countries.

On this occasion, the two governments will sign an agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official/Service Passports.

On 20 August, Prime Minister Yingluck will participate in the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation in Dushanbe. At the conference, she will give a keynote address on Thailand’s commitment to promoting cooperation on water security and raising awareness of the importance of water management as an integral part of sustainable development and in the post-2015 development agenda.

The visit of Prime Minister Yingluck to Tajikistan comes after the President of Tajikistan paid an official visit to Thailand as guest of the Thai government on 17-19 May 2013, when he also attended the second Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Chiang Mai. Both Thailand and Tajikistan are aware of the importance of water and water management as a major requisite of sustainable development.

On 20-21 August, the Prime Minister will visit Pakistan, where she will have a meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to discuss bilateral cooperation to strengthen Thai-Pakistani trade and investment relations, multilateral cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest. This will reinforce amicable relations with Pakistan’s newly elected government and build a strong economic partnership between the two nations.

During the visit, Thailand and Pakistan will sign three documents, namely the Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic Passports, the MOU on the Establishment of Joint Trade Committee, and the MOU on the Establishment of the Joint Business Council.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the official visit to Pakistan by the Thai Prime Minister is the first in eleven years. It reaffirms over six decades of close and cordial relations between Thailand and Pakistan.

The Prime Minister will arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 7:55 p.m. on 21 August.

Wadah urges govt to carefully deliberate BRN’s proposals

BANGKOK, 18 August 2013 (NNT) – Wadah group leader Wan Muhammad Noor Matha has warned the Thai government to carefully deliberate the 5 proposals of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional.

During the meeting to solve the southern unrest, Wadah group leader Wan Muhammad Noor Matha has urged the Thai officials led by Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok about the 5 proposals of the BRN insurgent group, saying the proposals will have to be carefully thought through, especially the fourth one, which is still unclear.

Meanwhile, National Security Council Secretary General Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanathabutr has affirmed that the peace dialogue between Thailand and the BRN will have to be carried on, while adding that BRN leader Hassan Taib also wants to continue the dialogue.

The meeting took about 3 hours and a half at the Government House.

The content of the proposals includes the Thai government should recognize the identity, race and language of the Melayu people, Thailand should withdraw its troops from the restive region, Thailand should let local security forces take over peacekeeping duties, and the government should offer amnesty to insurgents.
